ISO - Pre Sale Check List and Inspection Items for 1993 LD 26'5 rear bath June 26, 2021, 01:57:06 am Hello Everyone,I am inspecting and possibly going to buy a 1993 LD rear bath 26'5 footer and would like some input on things to look for with this LD model.I have heard about rear caps leaking however I am not sure what to check or how to identify any possible damage? Any advice on what I should look for or lessons learned would be greatly appreciated on what to check and look for in making sure this is a solid LD for my family. It has 85k miles and has the 7.5 460.Thank you,Glenn

Get an ice pick and poke at anything that may be iffy.Leaks in the rear wall are common, around the window and the end caps. Other spots are the bottom of the rest of the windows, the roof, and the front corners of the bunk area.Be very observant, damage in old rigs can be hard for the best inspectors to find, expect to find a lot of unknown problems and make sure to have a well-funded slush fund to fix all the things you do not know about...now.No matter how cheap to buy, RVing is NOT a cheap lifestyle.Larry 1 Likes
Re: ISO - Pre Sale Check List and Inspection Items for 1993 LD 26'5 rear bath Reply #2 – June 26, 2021, 06:03:32 pm Thanks Larry!I went out this afternoon and spent 3 hours combing over the rig. I found a decent amount of rot around the window above the sink, some soft spots in the floor, the end caps had not been sealed in decades, the roof rack had what looked to be originally putty around them that was raised, some of the screws on the overhang were rusted and the engine was leaking at least at the rear main with possible compression issues. There was a growling from the front of the end along with the oil gauge needle bouncing around. I didn’t bring a compression tester but also know the rear main seal will be a hefty job. I made an offer on worst case scenarios and he declined. I just could not see paying asking with all the items that needed to be fixed. It also had a pretty hard shift from d to 1 which could be a minor thing but after all the oil leaks were identified and he declined my worst case scenario offer I decided to end the inspection. 2 Likes

Repairing it is not a weekend job, instead, it can get extremely involved fast, rotted areas are like an iceberg, most of it is hidden beneath the surface. Many areas can not be easily accessed and may require the exterior siding to come off. Loads of fun.If you are a very handy person with a wide range of skills, a good set of tools, a place to park the rig, not easily discourage by another unexpected expenditure, and have a lot of free time, one of these antique rigs may be what you are looking for.Larry 1 Likes
