Have you replaced storage compartment boxes?
Has anyone built and replaced storage compartment boxes? Are the old ones difficult to remove? Any pictures? Any tips? What material did you use? I have a few I need to replace soon.

which ones?

I've modifies the one that's under the couch on my RL, and build additional ones in the back.

It was just using .75" x 1.5" wood for the frame and plywood. Most of the RV is built this way to make it light.

I haven’t crawled under the rig to get a good look, but is it relatively easy to get to the bolts and remove them? I know I will have to do this at some point but there are spiders and stuff under there so I thought if anyone can tell me what to expect, you could save me from the bugs and scraped knees until I really have to suit up in some coveralls and knee pads and tough it out. 🙃

Our 1983 storage compartments were made with and replaced with 3/4" plywood, screws, glue, and steel strapping tape. the exterior of the boxes was coated in exterior automotive undercoating and painted inside.

Newer LDs have blown plastic storage bins, they do not rot out the way the older wood boxes do.

Forgot to add that I added 2" X 2" wood strips inside the boxes where the plywood panels come together. They provide something to screw into and greatly increases the gluing surfaces.
The last set built was coated inside and out with West System marine epoxy. I was tempted to add a layer of fiberglass cloth to the exterior, adding strength and making it watertight.

Hmmmm, I wonder if I can buy the plastic bins from LD and if they will fit. It’s worth a call to LD.

The answer is only a call away.
They come in a variety of sizes and configurations.

And with the price of lumber right now, it probably costs about the same.
