Leaking Shower Drain
Hi, all!

Attached is a photo (from the outside access panel) of the threading(?) from the shower drain that appears to be leaking. I found this same leak back in January and my friend was able to go in and simply tighten the threading and it stopped the leak, but it’s leaking again!

When I found it the screw portion was loosened—again. Could this just be a “loosening on the road” type of issue that I’ll have to check after long drives, or is this an issue someone else has had?

Also, for  the life of me I can’t figure out how my friend got the access panel off, even after unscrewing all the screws, so any help would be appreciated on that front too!

Thank you!!

LD sometimes uses velcro to secure a panel in place. Screws can be difficult to see.
If the fitting keeps loosening, even after tightening, I would seal and secure it with a little Gloop sealant, it will keep the nut tight but still be removable.

Thanks, Larry! I was able to get the panel off and do a little more inspecting. I grabbed a wrench and tightened the nut as much as I could (which was a lot!) and cleaned up as much of the water as I could. I could literally move the nut up and down though, as if it isn’t even attached to the top metal portion!

Just an FYI—I haven’t used the shower in 5 days (I’m at a campsite with showers right now), but when I look down the drain I see water. Is that the P-trap? Or is it clogged? Seems like the leak was from the water in the drain vs actually using the shower??

Per someone else’s comment (on Facebook) I grabbed a plunger and some boiling water and left my phone below to record what happened next. And lo and behold, water began squirting out from where the white nut and metal pipe meets.

Sorry for the long message, but any idea how I should move forward?

Thank you so much!!

If you removed the nut, there should be a plastic washer between it and the pipe.

A leak at the junction of the nut and pipe can also be sealed with the previously mentioned Gloop.
Try the plastic washers first.

Make sure that the chrome pipe is protruding far enough into the PVC connection for the washer and nut to make a good seal. Can the PVC drain line settle enough to cause the nut to separate?
