Right Side View Camera Options?
Hi all,

I have a 2014 27’ MB.  I’m considering installing a right-side view camera.  Wondered if any of you have one?  Can I input the signal into the monitor that’s part of my rear-view camera (LD factory installed)?  Or would I need to add a second monitor somewhere?

I’d be very interested in any brand recommendations.

Thanks!

Jay

The one in my 2013 Voyager AOM562A has 2 channels.   I don't know where you can tap into the the 2nd circuit
YMMV

Thanks for the suggestions; lots to review!  I am leaning toward adding just a right side view camera and a dedicated monitor, leaving the original rear view camera & monitor alone.  Since the camera needs to be wired for power anyway, I’m not sure I see an advantage to the wireless camera option. Seems I’d be inviting potential connectivity issues with not much upside.

For you that have side view cameras, where did you mount your camera?

Hi Jay; you might be the first with a right side camera. Two places seem likely. First, is in the mirror arm. That gives you a little farther out from the body view. The wire can be passed through the arm into the door, then into under the dash.
Second is something underneath the cabover, pointing more downward; might be best for driving, to see cars next to you. That might be easiest to run wires. Forward and down the door post aft of the passenger cab door.
Go to some RV shows (if you can find any) and see where other manufacturers have mounted cameras on class 'C''s, and how much they can see.  Take pictures!    I've got a kit from Costco, still sitting in a box, with one color camera that can handle three with manual switches.  (still on that 'to do' list....)    RonB

Hi Ron.  When I was shopping for an RV, several we looked at had the cameras mounted on the bottom side of the mirror, giving a good view of traffic.  Your suggestion for routing wires sounds good.  I also like the cab over suggestion.  The only reason I want a camera is I worry about traffic next to me when I don’t have a copilot to help spot for me.  I think I’m competent with the mirrors, but I wouldn’t mind an extra set of optics to ensure the lane is clear for me!

I hear you’ve got some rain in San Diego today.  My family all lives there...hoping I get to see them again sometime soon.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The side camera(s) can also be mounted on the fenders, in front of the cab doors, facing rearward. This provides a more complete view of the entire side of the RV and is where I have seen Class Cs with Factory side cameras. The wiring would be more durable than the mirror mount since the it would not be bending ever time the door is opened.

I like hard-wired cameras, there is a lot less to go wrong. if you are going to run power to the camera(s), might as well finish the job by running the cable to monitor.
Many monitors have inputs for more than one camera, if going this route, a 'bird's-eye' view system would be desired.

Larry,

What do you mean by 'bird's-eye' view system.  Did you mean that the cameras should be mounted up high?  Jay’s question of side view cameras is of interest to me too.

John, this was on one of the sites from Rich’s link above.   I think this is a bird’s-eye view system.

Hi,  Just wondering if Jay or anyone else has installed a side camera yet.  I am interested in installing one too, as well as a rear view. I have been looking at Tadi Brothers systems and they have so many configurations to choose from!  Thanks,  Linda C.
