Toilet Leak
I think I have a Sealand 511 in my 2000 IB.

The attached item # spreadsheet was with all the other LD documentation and the sticker on the post it says 511. I dont have anything to compare it to but I think it is a "short" toilet.

There is a leak somewhere in the working of the pedal when I lift up to fill the bowl. Reviewing the forum and the Companion it seems if I am doing a single repair that maybe I should replace all the parts that might wear out on the toilet.

With that in mind - suggestions, thoughts, ideas from the crew here. I've watched a bunch of youtube videos and I think this is in my ability to do with a bit of frustration and a few pairs of disposable gloves.

Should I replace the connection hoses too? I imagine I can get these at menards, home depot etc - I dont see them listed on the ademco site.

Input always appreciated. (the plastic pedal is starting to crack so that's on the list too).

Thanks y'all!! See pics below.

You might want to order the water valve too, it and the vacuum breaker are the parts most likely to cause leakage.

As you said, it's a good time to renew the seals and other iffy parts.

I went through this drill about a year ago.  I pulled the toilet so that I could install new lino under it.  I wanted to rebuild the toilet but my RV mechanic said no parts were available. I asked around and everyone said the same thing and said to replace with a new toilet.  The problem is that the new toilet is about $600 and the flush lever is on the wrong side.  So I started calling marine supply house and was referred to Ardemco in CA.  I called and talked with one of the sales reps and I was looking for a replacement toilet like the one I had.  They had them in stock, but said that I should drive to Costa Mesa to pickup because they didnt want to ship.  I was thinking about doing that and the rep said why not rebuild what I had?  He said that they are a very good unit and I should just rebuild.  So I had him send me every replaceable item on the toilet.  Total charge $206, see attached.  None of the local RV mechanics would rebuild the toilet, only replace.  So I started the somewhat unpleasant job of disassembling and rebuilding.  Not that difficult and toilet works perfectly.  I did replace the toilet seat with a soft close unit that I bought at HD.

Thanks Larry and paruskky!!

I think I will do what paruskky did and call Ardemco and ask them to send me all the replaceable parts.  Including the water valve ;)

Do any of you order doubles of all this stuff? I am always worried about the parts not being available in the future!! I had an RV mechanic tell me these parts are no longer available too. Ugh... always have to do your own research (and query the LDOF!) and not rely on the "experts".

paruskky - do you have a Sealand 511 or one of the other Sealand models? Your LD is a few years younger than mine. Did you replace your hoses? The slow close lid is a great idea - we have one at home and I love it!

Yes, my toilet was a Sealand 511.  The reason all mechanics say that parts arent available is because they dont want to work on rebuilding the toilet.   Messy, somewhat disgusting work and then they have to be responsible for any problems.  Much easier to slap on a new unit.    I replaced the fill line as well.  I also replaced mounting bolts and seal as I was replacing my lino.  Depending on what floor you have under your toilet, this is the time to replace.  Finally I built a 4" wide oak shelf and mounted to the front of the raised pad.  Gives you a place to put your feet, rather than stretching to the floor.

What is the "fill line"? Ive watched a bunch of videos and checked out the parts list and havent heard this term.

Were all the supplies you needed in this spec sheet you posted? Except for building the foot shelf.

Thanks for the details :) Only want to do this once.

I meant the incoming water line.  Dont know where "fill" line came from.   The sheet that I posted is everything that Ardemco said was needed.  The foot shelf was built out of some spare 1"x4" oak planking.

Jodi, when I bought "Ophelia" she had not been properly winterized for Colorado weather. So I ended up replacing not only the toilet but both faucets the water pump and the freshwater tank valve.
But the toilet, lucky for me, was less than $250. I have to say I lucked out on finding the RV repair place I use they did a great job I still had $$$ drive her afterwards!

Good morning LD fam!

Reviving this thread from last year. This toilet refurbish project is happening this weekend.

I think I have all the supplies except...

Would like to have the "incoming water line" or "fill line" on hand. I think this is just a hose I can buy from the hardware store - ie not a Sealand / Ademco part. Any idea the size of this hose? and the hose clamps? I am not with the LD right now and if I can get this part it might save me an hour running back n forth to the hardware store which is quite a distance from the rig.

Jodi, did you ever identify what is leaking?  It seems like you are doing a lot of work, when tightening a connection may be all that is needed.

the water valve assembly - when the pedal is lifted to fill the bowl - leaks around the metal part

Got it.  There should be no need to replace the hoses or other stuff, unless you want to.  Replacing the valve should be pretty simple.

The Sealand 511 restoration is complete. All the wearable parts have been replaced.

Just a note - at the recommendation of the Ardemco guy I got the SeaLand / Dometic 385319054 Vacuum Breaker & Hand Spray Kit.  the section of pipe that inserts into the back ring on the toilet is shorter than the original that I removed from the toilet. We had to modify it to lengthen it so it would fit. The Ardemco guy was very confident and rattled off all the things I needed for the project so I did not second guess.

Looking again at the Ardemco site - I probably should have gotten: SeaLand / Dometic 385319055 Vacuum Breaker w/Hand Sprayer Kit (with extension).

Everything else fit great! Thought I would put this out there in case anyone else comes across this issue.

This whole project took me (with my dad coaching me) about 4 hours with 1 trip to the hardware store.
Here is my Ardemco invoice with item numbers for the Sealand 511. (see above as I got 1 incorrect part).
