Gas lines?
With the recent pipeline disruption,  we are suddenly seeing gas lines at gas stations.  We noticed lines more pronounced in towns-  Richmond Virginia and Hampton/Newport News,  and less lines at  highway exit gas stations (where there is more room for a rig to maneuver anyway).  What are y'all seeing  in your necks of the woods?

I live in the SouthEast, and we carry a Pilot/Flying J RV fuel card in the RV.  They sent this email today (5.11.21).

Traveler beware - have a plan for the next few days if you're driving through the southeastern US.

We've used many of these locations over the years.

-----------------

To our Valued Guests:

We are closely monitoring the rapidly changing Colonial Pipeline situation and are seeing increased demand for gasoline across various markets in the Southeast region. Diesel is still holding steady in most areas.

The increased strain on the supply chain is causing supplies to get tighter. Currently, diesel is available at most of our locations with select stores experiencing outages as we work to bring in more supply.

We will continue to do everything we can, including bringing in resources and extra drivers from unaffected areas, to meet demand and restore supply where needed at our travel centers.

Additionally, please be aware of the recent Georgia Governor’s Executive Order dated May 10, 2021, which suspended the collection of motor fuel and diesel fuel taxes required by Code Section 48-9-3. More details on this are below.

We greatly appreciate your patience as we work to keep up with the quickly evolving market and will inform you of any changes to diesel supply availability.

Store Operations & Supply Conditions:

All locations are open.

No Gas, Diesel Only:

Pilot #425, Midway, FL
Pilot #6996, Warsaw, NC
Pilot #6990, Kenly, NC
Pilot #256, Danville, VA
Pilot #500, Jasper, FL
Flying J #712, Columbia, SC

No Gas or Diesel:

Pilot #7971, Conover, NC (Diesel delivery tonight)
Pilot #7996, Monroe, NC (Diesel delivery tonight)

No Diesel:

Pilot #56, Kannapolis, NC (Diesel delivery tonight)
Flying J #713, Latta, SC
Pilot #4584, Latta, SC (Diesel delivery tonight)
Flying J #623, Quincy/Midway, FL (Diesel delivery tonight)
Pilot #4557, Carnesville, GA

Georgia Excise Tax Executive Order:

We are aware of the recent Georgia Governor’s Executive Order dated May 10, 2021 which suspended the collection of motor fuel and diesel fuel taxes required by Code Section 48-9-3.  With the Colonial Pipeline down, we are required to transport fuel from out of state to our Georgia travel centers, which is creating additional issues as several states will require state excise states to be charged if Georgia taxes are not charged.  We are attempting to get more information on the proper handling of this order.

In the meantime, we request that you maintain your receipts for any cash or credit card purchases made on May 11, 2021 through 11:59pm on May 15, 2021, or until further guidance from the State of Georgia on the best way to handle this situation dictates otherwise. Based on guidance received, we will review all direct bill and billing card invoices and make adjustments or corrections as needed.

We appreciate the opportunity to serve you and thank you for your patience during this time.

It's nothing huge.  I get a few cents off of gas and propane, $5 off the dump fee, and some coupons for coffee and snacks.

The biggest thing for me is that many Flying J's have dedicated RV lanes with plenty of space for entry and exit without worrying about cars.  They typically have fresh water and air at the RV fuel pumps.  I think those pumps are also set for higher price limits, so they don't shut off at $100 like some car pumps do.

I just have the free rewards card.  I don't have the credit card with a Good Sam connection.

Triangle area of NC here. Of probably ten stations I passed by today, only three had gas. All of them had lines backing up into streets. I heard from someone that spent an hour in line getting gas today.

Canceling weekend travel plans as the trip would take more then what we currently have in the rig.

Speaking of trying to save a few dollars by searching out the cheapest gas wherever you are traveling, I used to do that. Color me spendy or indifferent or lazy, but nowadays I buy gas when I need it at the station that happens to be in sight when the tank is down to 1/3rd or so. Usually there's a clump of them to choose from. Not worrying about (cheapest) gas prices makes my trips less stressful.

Thanks, Rich.  I’ll check into their fuel cards. I think Loves may have a similar program.

Chris, Gas Buddy is my buddy! I don’t mind saving a little money on fuel if I can but I don’t go out of my way to do it.

Costco in Folsom CA is business as usual - sporadically crowded,  cost up nickel or a dime.
Like Chris Horst, refill when there's a station convenient entry/exit, but I tend to start looking at 1/2 tank or the end of the day's drive.
I always try to start the day with a full tank

Gas Buddy is a good site, it gets used when we are traveling.
Do remember to to use a Top Tier fuel whenever possible.

I must confess, I do like the way Love’s and Flying J/ Pilot cater to larger vehicles and have used them for the RV.  Too bad they are not Top Tier.

We could only find gas at Loves driving I-10 in the Florida panhandle yesterday. Flying J was out along with many other stations. Hope it will get better further west. Pulling in the Cherokee at interstate speed we’re getting 9mpg. We’re happy.  👍
