Re: Please Advise - Touch Up for Cherry Cabinets Reply #1 – May 11, 2021, 10:06:29 am Unless the cabinetry in LDs has changed in recent years, only the cabinet trim and drawer fronts are wood; the rest is vinyl-laminated hardboard/luan. The wood areas can be re-stained/re-finished, and if a scratch or ding goes through the vinyl to the luan underneath, the appearance can probably be improved by a stain touch up, but fading or discoloration or whatnot on the vinyl itself is a "cover it up or live with it" thing, IMO.I've used Minwax stains (and low gloss polyurethane top coat) to refinish some areas of cabinet trim; here's a color chart.Wood Stain Colors - Minwax Stain Colors & Wood Finish Guide | MinwaxA tip: Follow the directions to use the stain and polyurethane, i.e., "stirred, not shaken"! 3 Likes
