Thanks, Glen.

I noticed in NY Times’ piece, the mention of Santa Barbara, California’s “Safe Parking” program.  As a resident of SB, I am aware that this program was put in place about the time the city of SB instituted an ordinance prohibiting oversized vehicle parking (other than via special permit), on city streets.  According to the Safe Parking website, there have been no major incidents to the parking lots or neighborhoods where people living in vehicles (cars, vans, small school buses it seems), are placed.  Although, the city has recently toughened its stance on overnight parking in city parks due to incidents of crime and harassment of Parks & Recreation workers.

I’m of the opinion that better accommodation could be made in and near cities for those choosing to live in their van or RV.  Perhaps this film will lead to better awareness and acceptance of those choosing a different lifestyle.

Very interesting..  Where "Blue" (1990 MP) lives in the San Fernando Valley, there are MANY streets with RV's and assorted junk living along the major roadways.  Every now and then, the RV's and most of the junk moves.  I've even heard of folks buying old RV's and renting them to the almost homeless to live on the street!

Jennifer and I have had a few instances of "where do you live/park?" from the gas station manager, answer, it's our RV, stored in our backyard nearby, to "DON'T you park that thing here!" from the across the street neighbor as we are lining up Blue, Ghost and "other" Lazy Dazes to get ready to leave for Morro Bay.

In a perfect world, rents wouldn't be astronomical (I'm a landlord), or there would be under-used parking lots where these folks can park safely.  I don't think there is a good answer, and I fear it will become worse, especially if you boondock!
