Possible Personal Messaging Problem
I'd like to call attention to a possible PM problem with the forum.  First I will describe the problem I experienced.  I sent a PM to Andy using the forum messaging system requesting some information.  Andy replied using his Apple based email system (which appears to be a legitimate way to answer it) but I never received it.  When I asked him about it, he resent it using the messaging system itself.  Not knowing there might be a problem, I responded using my windows based email system, but he never received it.  Bottom line, there appears to be a problem if you answer a PM using your email client.  Don't know if this is worth looking into for a fix, meanwhile, I recommend that you respond to any PM using the forum's messaging system rather than your email.

Perhaps Steve C will chime in, but I believe if you use the forum messaging system you have to respond through that channel even though you are notified in your personal email system where you can read the message. However, to respond you have to  click on the link provided in your personal email which takes you back to the forum messaging system.

(I also messaged Andy but never got a reply)  Andy replied using his Apple based email system (which appears to be a legitimate way to answer it) but I never received it.  (This may be why I never received an answer from Andy) Andy, if you are reading this perhaps you could try to answer me a different way.

"Bottom line, there appears to be a problem if you answer a PM using your email client."

That's been my experience in the past as well: you must use the web-based Forum tools to reply to emails about personal messages. I wish there were a way to change this behavior, but maybe it isn't possible.

Chris, that is exactly what I (and I assume Andy) did, and what doesn't seem to work.  What I needed to do to make it work is to manually log into the forum messaging system and respond there.  I know it's confusing because it looks like you are going into the messaging system from your email, but evidently the recipient never gets the message if you do it that way.  Maybe ours was just a fluke, but it seemed like something that could happen to others.

I'll check with Steve on this.

I'll look into what may be happening..  You should be able to do exactly what was stated in the opening post,

When you get an email from the forum (post or PM) you should be able to simply hit reply and send a message back.  When you hit reply it will be back to the forum, so don't change whatever the reply to (somethin like ld@....).  The forum uses a key in the message to determine where/who it goes (with lots of other checks of course)

I did some testing and was unable to reproduce a problem.

I sent a PM which I received via email ... I replied to that email and got back a PM on the forum (and another email).  Also tested the posting to the forum via email and that worked.  I checked in the error log files (site/server/email) and there were no issues regarding the email posting functions.

So I'm still looking but have not found anything yet  :(

ETA I'll have to see if I have any apple emails to test, Apple can be ... just yeah.

I have replied via email (Yahoo app) and it was received.
However sometimes a reply to a forum email never shows or shows about 15 hours later.

My latest thoughts were that I typed the message and hit send then immediately shut down my app.  So the message didn’t get sent before I shut the app down - maybe sending it the next time I opened the app for a while (and maybe not).

You all know this but also check spam folders - often I get valid emails that are tagged as spam.

I just tested the process on my Mac. Sent message from forum to private email, responded by clicking on response link and the response showed up in forum message. Worked just liked it's supposed to.

Chris,
My replies that had issues were from a phone.  I use the forum on the desktop.

Well, I called it a "Possible Personal Messaging Problem"  Thanks for looking into it, but it still doesn't explain the problem Andy and I experienced.  Like I said before, maybe it was just a fluke, but as for me, I will be responding to any personal message by logging into the forum and answering it there.
