Onan Fuel Filter
I am attempting to change the fuel filter on the Onan generator and have come across a hose clamp that I’m not familiar with.  Is this a reusable hose clamp and, if so, how do I get it off?  I clamped the fuel line with vise grips but don’t want to take the hose clamp off unless I know how it works.

It's not reusable.  I remove them with snips like this:

Unless you suspect an issue, you might not need to change the fuel filter.  I'm not sure what the onan recommendation is (500 hours maybe?) , but modern gas in a fairly new vehicle is remarkably clean.

Thanks, Rich. I think the one manual I do not have is a generator manual so not sure what the recommendation is.  The generator only has 104 hours on it right now so maybe I’ll just hold off until I can find out what the recommendation is.
I thought I read somewhere, maybe in the Lazy Daze manual, to replace it once a year, though.

Edit: I looked in the Lazy Daze manual and it makes no mention of replacing the fuel filter as part of a yearly tuneup so will hold off for now.

My Onan manual says change the fuel filter at 450 hours. It's the amount of fuel that goes through it that's important, not how old it is, and hours is an easy proxy for fuel volume.

Thanks, Eric! Noted for future reference. At my current rate of use, I will be changing it in about 14 years.   ;)

This is an Oetiker Clamp. Most commonly found on high-pressure fuel injection lines.

Greg, most if not all the Onan/Cummins manuals are available for download.

Charles, these types of clamps seem a bit overkill for the application.  I can’t imagine that the fuel pressure going to the generator feed is very high.  When it does come time to replace the fuel filter, what would be a suitable replacement clamp?

Steve, the only generator info that I received when the LD was purchased was a CD with product information on it but I was unable to access the data for some reason.  Good to know the manuals are online.  I printed out the KY manual that Warren provided.  I’ve already done most of the maintenance items except for the spark arrestor cleaning so will do that next.  I bought two fuel filters, thinking it was a yearly replacement item.  Anyone need one?  😉

Ken, the KY manual states to replace it at 450 hours or sooner, if engine perfomance deteriorates.

Greg, here are other options. Pick one and be sure to get the correct diameter.  ;)

T-Bolt
Worm Gear
Nylon Ratcheting
