Thanks a lot for that! Yeah, November 9th is kind of a big day at Qualcomm here in San Diego. I’ll be meeting some of my old Qualcomm engineering pals at a local brewery to tip a pint or two in honor of Hedy 😀- John

Thanks a lot for that! I realize this is getting way down in the weeds and off topic and I'm truly sorry for that. But as a retired RF Engineer in the cellphone industry, I can't let this pass. CDMA is a 2G and 3G cellphone technology that is being phased out. While most Verizon and Sprint compatible phones support CDMA, it is only for compatibility with older 2G and 3G cell towers. However CDMA is not a dead technology, as it is widely used in WiFi and Bluetooth applications. For 4G LTE and 5G, most cell towers and all of the major cellphone carriers have implemented OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access).CDMA has been a major technology enabler and to commemorate its inventor, November 9th has been designated Hedy Lamarr Day. Hedy Lamarr day celebrates the 106th birthday of the long time actress and award winning inventor for her lifetime accomplishments. She was born 11/9/1914 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary as Hedwig Eva Maris Kiesler. During WW2, Hedy and her mother escaped Nazi rule and fled to the United States where they became citizens. In 1941 Hedy, with the help of composer George Antheil, invented a jam-proof radio guidance system for torpedoes. In 1942 Hedy and George were granted a patent for frequency-hopping spread-spectrum technology that is used today in CDMA systems. Hedy is credited for several inventions including an improved traffic light and a seltzer tablet soft drink. Hedy's awards include 1960 Hollywood Walk of Fame Star, 1997 Electronic Frontier Foundation's Pioneer Award, 1997 BULBIE "Oscars of inventing", 2014 National Inventors Hall of Fame (posthumously). Hedy died on January 19, 2000.- John 7 Likes
