1991 Interior Painting
I want to paint the inside of my 1991 LD either white or off-white. But need help getting over the guilt of over-painting the lovely brown woodwork! Back when, someone at the LD factory chose that wood and veneer carefully... but for me, it just makes the inside way too dark.
Psychological trauma aside, any tips on paint? Will probably go with a top-quality latex for the easy cleanup. I know oil-based enamel would last longer, but I'm 76, so who cares...

Jon,
You want to clean the surfaces, scuff sand them, and prime, then two coats of top color paint.  The best paint for cabinets is a water based alkyd paint.  Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams both carry it.  Goes on like oil, but water cleanup.   I did my house kitchen cabinets about 15 years ago and they're holding up great.

Jon, there was a recent thread on painting the cabinets in the LD. You might want to used the search function to find the thread; many informative posts.

Thanks Joan! Found myself today thinking 'leave well enough alone', as the factory interior is actually very nice, though dark, all that wood. But will keep your advice for the future. Also, truth be told, it struck me that painting the interior is a lot of work, to do it right. Will pass on it for now.
