backward wired plug on house
was the hot on the ground lug at the receptacle?

Hi Dave. Per Gregs request I started a different topic.     The house socket, a standard 30 Amp plug had the hot lead connected to where the neutral should have been, and the neutral wire was attached to where the hot lead should have been. The ground was connected properly. At least it wasn't connected to 220! Both hot leads. That has happened at some campgrounds to other people.
In the LD, like houses, the ground and neutral are connected together at the incoming panel.  When I plugged in, that shorted the hot lead to the ground and neutral, almost instantly tripping the breaker.  So I reset it (total other end of the house). I used a meter on the socket leads, Black was hot compared to ground, and white was neutral. The socket itself was just barely marked. (in my oinion a 'really cheap socket). Reversed the wires and everything was good.
Here, useful as an EMS can be, it didn't get far enough to matter in this case.  I may still put one in while I'm upgrading my converter.       RonB

I can see where it is good to check an unknown source before connecting.
