Outside storage compartment weatherstripping replacement recommendation
I was doing some reorganizing in one of the outside storage compartments today and discovered that the carpet and several items were very wet.  Inspection of weatherstripping around the door opening showed significant deterioration. I am hoping someone on the forum has experience with replacing this weatherstripping and can recommend a suitable product.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Matt,

The Mothership has what you need. A couple of years ago, I found that the rubber weather stripping on our ‘15 RB outside storage bays had pulled away from the corners.

I looked around EBay, Amazon etc and was unsure of the best product to use plus the prices were all over the place. I called Lazy Daze and ordered the exact rubber needed to complete the task. About $1.00 a foot.

Once you get the new rubber and have removed the old stuff, make sure you use some acetone to clean/remove the old adhesive.

After getting the goo removed, start replacing the new rubber (I think I started center top). It is a self adhesive product. Remove the paper backing a couple of inches at a time as you lay it in place. Be careful, don’t stretch the rubber (this encourages the rubber to pull free at the corners).

Simple to do and inexpensive. Good luck.

Hi Matt;  So when you say 'significant deterioration', does that mean torn and shredded, or just coming loose?  I bought a 16 year old rig (at the time) and the double sided tape was coming off the back of the rubber. I just cleaned it with acetone, and the white painted aluminum compartment edge, and glued it back in place with white foaming Gorilla glue (polyurethane). It stuck well and looks good so far (4+ years).  As Kent said, don't stretch it around the corners. I ended up about 2" shorter, so I spliced a piece of new (bought from LD) in at the top to fill in the 2"gap.   RonB

Listen to Kent
When installing a new seal, try to compress the corners a bit to make up for the shrinkage that comes with age and exposure, trying to get a tight, good looking fit will lead to the corners pulling loose in time.

Hi Ron,

Deterioration appears to be a few gouges and small missing "chunks" along the bottom and a general lack of compression that makes the door feel a bit loose even when closed and locked. All adhesive appears to have held up fine. This compartment door is opened and closed multiple times on every outing and far more than all of the other (4) compartment doors combined by a significant margin. I think it is just plain old worn out:) Thanks again to you and others for all the helpful sourcing and installation tips.
