New water pump vibration June 23, 2020, 12:54:05 pm I recently installed a 4008 Shurflo revolution water pump. It works but is shaking so much it’s crazy. I am thinking either new pump is bad or it’s the way I installed it. I read many older posts on this subject because I had to fit this different style unit into the space. Added some length to the attached hoses. I have attached a picture. Is it me or the pump?Fiuther to this, it’s the worst when using bathroom sink in my 2006 MB. The pump and hoses shake so Much something is going to give. Any ideas where to start troubleshooting?
Re: New water pump vibration Reply #1 – June 23, 2020, 02:00:11 pm We had a similar situation about a year ago. I removed the pump and discovered that the bolts holding the pump to the motor were slightly loose. I tightened them up and added a little lock-tight and the noise disappeared.Harold

Re: New water pump vibration Reply #3 – June 23, 2020, 05:47:57 pm Jack, my first thought was that the hoses are backward, but if I read correctly, you are getting water in the system, just with a lot of vibration, so let's ignore that. (Guess how I know it is easy to connect the hoses backward... ) With my pump, if the tank gets low, I can get air in the pump. When that happens, the pump is very noisy and vibrates badly, but a steady flow of water, such as taking a shower, will clear that up in a minute or so as long as there is enough water in the tank. Shurflo manuals say to check for an air leak on the intake side of the system. You would not see a drip from such a leak. Rather, when the pump is on and sucking water in, if air bubbles are pulled in along with the water, things get noisy. So, check the strainer for leaks or cracks, and make sure every connection from the tank to the pump is snug.Looking at the pic, it looks like the far side of the pump may have an L connector rather than a straight one. If so, you may want to try using a straight one there.Ken F in WY

I do have an L connector on one side (that’s all I had with me)). I will try and find a straight connector and replace it.Of course I THINK that I installed everything without any leaks but sounds like I had better double check. When I installed it I scraped and cut up my arms so bad That I am a little regretting putting my arm back in there but will do so ASAP.Thanks for all the suggestions
Re: New water pump vibration Reply #5 – June 23, 2020, 07:23:55 pm Have you looked at the pump when it is making noise? The firm water lines can vibrate off each other and the insides of the cabinet. Do not tie the two water lines together or let them touch each other, this will cause noise.The lines can be isolated with small pieces of rubber and foam. The pump's mounting screws are not supposed to be cranked down tight, instead, I leave them a little loose, letting the rubber feet move and do their job.Softer supply lines are made to help silence noisy pumps.Shurflo 94-591-01 RV Water Pump Silencing KitOur water pump, like Ken's, will sometime lose its prime after traveling and will need a faucet to stay open for a minute or longer before the pump starts working normally and the noise caused by air in the system is purged.Larry 2 Likes

I am guessing I had air in the line and just had not run long enough.I am also going to remove the tie down I have put in holding the input and output lines together. (That goes for the pump in my former Lazy Daze as well as the one in my Airstream.) It's not fatal, but it's annoying to hear that thing pounding like a jackhammer after every relocation, until it finally regains its prime. This happens regardless of whether the tank is full or partly full. I don't really understand why it does it, but I wish it didn't.

When the vehicle is moving it causes the water to push the air around increasing it to a pressure high enough to push it out of the tank. glenglen
