Unconnected RF connector? May 25, 2020, 01:03:35 am Can anyone tell me what this unconnected connector is for? And should it be connected?I get no AM reception from my Pioneer: maybe those items are related.

Re: Unconnected RF connector? Reply #2 – May 25, 2020, 03:03:29 am Sorry for the mystery.The doghouse has been removed, allowing the view into the dashboard. The white metal is the upper flange of the engine opening, where the big black gasket on the front edge of the doghouse fits.

If so, it is a female, so it would be short and attached to the back of the pioneer unit. The male end would be on the cable coming from the antenna. Without a proper connection to the antenna, poor FM and no AM would be a symptom.Steve

The one you found could be for the unused vehicle factory antenna that has been removed. AM reception can be poor at times and maybe the LD antenna is more for FM.
Re: Unconnected RF connector? Reply #6 – May 25, 2020, 12:41:16 pm If AM reception is poor, it is usually an indication of a problem with the antenna match. This can be a broken ground braid in the coax, or a poor RF match. If it is the latter, there is usually a small access hole near the antenna connection on the back of the unit. The screw adjustment behind the hole is to maximize the AM signal.If you can replace the antenna temporarily with a long wire leading outside the rig, you should get something more than static on AM. If still nothing, the AM section of the receiver may be bad.Steve
