House Batteries to Stereo
Hello Lazy Dazers,
We own a 2012 – 31’
I'm having an issue I’m hoping someone can help me with. My husband I changed our house batteries. We have 2 – 6 volt deep cycle batteries now. We initially had trouble putting them in, with a couple of switched wires, but we fixed it (the breaker in the battery box tripped). I only mention this embarrassing mistake because I’m afraid it may have something to do with my problem: Now the house batteries work as normal and are holding a charge BUT the stereo doesn’t work at all and the inverter doesn’t work. The inverter under the fridge shows it’s on when plugged into shore power but doesn’t work when we are unplugged. The Bose DVD player doesn’t work when unplugged from shore power.
We’ve checked the breakers and fuses and are stumped. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong? Thank so much!!

Have you looked for and found all in-line fuses?

When you are off shore power and turn on the inverter. does the inverter turn on? Often they have a power "on" light. If not, you have discovered part of your problem.

How many watts does your stereo draw on 120v? If you assume a 90% conversion efficiency for the inverter and multiply the power draw of the stereo by 1.1, you will get an approximate draw on the inverter.  If this number is equal to or greater than the inverter power rating. you may have tripped the breaker in the inverter. Stereos can draw a lot of watts.

The inverter does NOT turn on when disconnected from shore power...the power light stays off. When connected to shore power the inverter "on" light comes on.
Do you know how we would fix the inverter breaker?

It will depend on the inverter.  They are all different.
When I tripped the one we use in the Lazy Daze, I unplugged it from the 12v power, waited a bit, and it reset itself.  Look around on the case and see if it has a reset button.  If not, unplug or un-power it and see if it fixes itself.
If you can find the power draw printed on the case of your stereo, you may find why the inverter breaker tripped.  If the stereo draws too much current, the inverter will trip again.
