Water noise January 08, 2020, 07:08:59 pm In our 2012, 27” RB we have a sound that is almost as if the water pump is running whenever we use the water. Any water. Toilet, or either of the sinks. It’s a loud humming noise when are hooked up to an outside source at a campground and the water pump is not on. My wife asked if that was normal and I told her I wasn’t sure. I do know that our ‘91 didn’t have that noise. Water pressures are fine. Can anybody out there tell us if you experience that same noise?Dale from Downey.
Re: Water noise Reply #1 – January 08, 2020, 07:40:57 pm Dale,Many of us do not hook up directly to the “City Water” connection preferring to fill our fresh water tank and run our faucets via our coaches water pump. We do this to avoid the possible rupture of our water lines. Especially on older rigs.You state that water pressures are fine. I gather from this that you are using a pressure regulator prior to the intake outside the rig. Perhaps the noise you hear is due to the pressure running through the lines inside the coach. Any particular reason for not using the fresh water tank and the water pump? Have you looked for water lines leaking? Just a thought.Kent

Don’t know why tho. No water leaks. What noise do you experience in the same situation ( if you have used city water)?

I have experienced this as well, water passing through may vibrate the spring loaded diaphragm as it does it’s job in restricting pressure from the incoming line. Nothing to be concerned about if this is the cause. 1 Likes

It's a higher frequency humming whenever a faucet or the toilet is flushed compared to the sound of the water pump. I thought it pretty strange since it never occurred in other RV's I've owned.When hooked up I always use a pressure regulator to be safe. I remember doing a test with and without the regulator to determine the cause thinking that perhaps the regulator was "chattering". But, now I can't remember if the regulator was the cause or if some weird resonance in the plumbing caused it 1 Likes

It seemed related to the screen on the intake as it disappeared when I removed it. I put the screen back in and assumed it was turbulence caused by the screen.I could be totally wrong tho'Joel 1 Likes

Re: Water noise Reply #10 – January 09, 2020, 08:36:30 am In my experience, I think Joel is probably close to the mark, especially if the sound is similar to blowing a raspberry (which my almost 1 year old grandson is really good at!). In plumbing systems that have washers,its possible that washer can work loose. As the water flows over it, it vibrates, but usually at a single (probably resonant) frequency. I'm pretty sure there is a washer that prevents backflow where the city water enters the RV. That's the little plastic "thing" you sometimes have to push in where the city water connects when you want to relieve the water pressure in the RV. Perhaps there could be a small piece of trash there allowing it to not seal and vibrate?? I guess that's a long explanation to say, "look at the city water inlet". In a midbath, you could see and feel the water line as it entered the coach to see if it was vibrating there. That would also suggest that if it is a vibration in the water system, you might could feel it in a water line. If my guess is close, it should be stronger on the cold side. By the same token, if the faucets have washers (most recent ones don't) it could be that one of them is loose. Just a suggestion.Ken 1 Likes

Does anyone know the proper way to remove this spring gadget? I’d like to remove it and check it.

Re: Water noise Reply #14 – January 12, 2020, 07:00:59 pm Does anybody know what the recommended water pressure is for our LD’s? Do most use the 40-50 pound standard regulator or is it better to use one with an adjustable gauge?
