"Thirty Years in the Hole"
This poor vent and fan served well for almost 30 years! Unfortunately it started giving cold rain showers during some of the visits to the throne room!

"This poor... fan..."

Now this is a prime example of what I refer to as a "Rinky-Dink" fan and should be high on anyone's priority list for replacement, ASAP! Not only is the sad little bugger extremely noisy, it doesn't move enough air to get the stink out.   :'(
High time for something better!

Nice but I'm surprises you didn't install a fan with real airflow, such as a Maxx or Fantastic.
Our 1983 LD had the same ineffective fan, and we hated it.  I ripped the same fan out of our 2003 LD, the day it was delivered to dump the puny fan, replacing it with a Fantastic. You can still retro-fit the new frame with a more powerful fan.

I thought about it but I already retrofitted the coach with the Turbo Cool evaporative cooler. It has an exhaust setting that is fearsome. I was concerned one of us might get sucked out of the plane during rapid decompression if I combined it with a Maxxfan just two feet away.  That Ventline unit makes a cute little noise maker too.

I ditched the bathroom fan for this:

Amazon.com: Heng's 90043-CR Replacement Vortex I Fan: Automotive

What was great about this option is I didn't have to remove the main fan assembly from the roof. Just removed the old worthless fan and installed the insert.

Not sure which vent LD used in '03, but the one in our '83 had a plastic lid that was perforated by a falling eucalyptus seedpod. The FF has a polycarbonate lid that is much tougher. If you use a vent cover you should be good, though.
