Southerly travel
I've discovered I have some time open from roughly New Year's to January 15 and am looking for suggestions from y'all down towards the gulf.  Two years ago I drove from Chillicothe to the end of US 65 in Clayton, LA, & then on down to Grand Isle State Park, then wandered back up US 63 to US 36 & home.  It was lovely (except for hitting ice in the Ozarks on the return, but likely can't be avoided entirely this time of year)--& I remember seeing a Moro Bay State Park in Arkansas  ;) .

I know there's a member somewhere in NW/NCentral Arkansas, but the member map function isn't working for me now.  I've looked a bit at Hot Springs National Park as a potential stop--any particular experiences with Hot Springs NP (I don't tow; thoughts on getting around--Bathhouse Row/other sights...I see there are numerous trails on the Park Map from the RV area--is this a walkable area)?  I'm also wondering about experiences south of Missouri, perhaps as far as the gulf.

I prefer the slower pace & small towns of US routes & state highways, though I'm not totally averse to interstates.  Thx, in advance.

I blogged about it a while back. I doubt much has changed.

Thx, Jon.  Interesting travelogue & photos.   Is it walkable from the campground, or did you need to drive?  I'd rather not have to break camp/leave a chair on the site, but oh well.

Were you meandering through the south-central states, or was Hot Springs a planned destination?  Anything else you'd recommend from there to the Gulf?

We “drove” the Vespa. As I noted, there may camps closer than the one we used. Hot Springs was a planned part of our Southeast trip, all of which is covered in the blog entries before and after this one. We weren’t wandering, rather we were following a route of supposed “must-sees” compiled through AAA’s state guidebooks. Some were, some weren’t, and we supplemented with serendipities along the way. — Jon
