BTW, if you have access to military facilities, there is a RV campground at China Lake. A little warm out there this time of the year, though:

U.S. Military Campgrounds and RV Parks - Sierra Vista RV Park

Stationed there in '93 no campground @ that time I remember. Bought a used 1968 Montgomery Ward Tent Trailer so I could escape to Sequoia, Mt. Whitney. 75 lbs canvas tent on galvanized poles attached to a box with two wheels. Once had a Bear rub up against it while we slept. Only realized because it was at an angle even though it was still hitched up to the mini-van come morning. That and the bear scat.
Our old quarters since been torn down.
Always said if the desert started glowing at night I was out of there.
Once got knocked off my feet during an earthquake.
