power outage question October 28, 2019, 03:22:07 pm Does anyone know how to bypass the auto shutoff on the generator? I'm close to the one third mark, and we're without power..again...:-)...and of course there's no gas stations open anywhere near me.
Re: power outage question Reply #1 – October 28, 2019, 03:48:27 pm As I understand it, "auto shutoff" is due to the generator's pickup tube not extending all the way to the bottom of the fuel tank. I don't think there's any easy way to bypass that arrangement.

Re: power outage question Reply #3 – October 28, 2019, 06:05:59 pm Well, you can disconnect the generator fuel pump from the line going to the motorhome fuel tank. Plug that up. Add a rubber (fuel hose quality) line from the generator fuel pump and run that line down the fuel filler to your main tank. You would run the risk of emptying that tank; then you wouldn't be able to go anywhere. Separate small tanks, 2 gallon for outboard boat motors, have safety seals and a gauge to read fuel level. Maybe you could borrow gasoline from another vehicle? Park it next to your generator and run that hose down it's gas filler. RonB

Syphoning isn't possible either, the filler hose has a trap built into it to prevent snaking a small hose into the tank. I have tried and failed. You can use the engine's alternator to charge the coach battery. Don't run the tank too low, you still may need to make a quick getaway, the forecast is for the winds to last a minimum of three more days.Larry
