Re: High Prices for Used LD Reply #2 – October 18, 2019, 07:06:33 pm Asking prices for LDs (and other RVs) are subject to a great deal of variation; age, condition, chassis/engine/GVWR, mileage, model, location, private seller or dealer, and even color come into play, as well as features, add-ons, and/or upgrades that many may find appealing. Additionally, some sellers price a rig higher than it might list for otherwise because they need a certain sale price to pay off a loan or they hope to recoup outlay on repairs, replacements, and aftermarket items. Dealer prices are very often higher and less negotiable than those of private sellers, but both private sellers and dealers are obviously hoping to get the highest possible sale price. In the end, an LD or anything else is 'worth' what somebody is willing to pay for it.YMMV, as always. 3 Likes

I haven't been watching the prices as well for other floor plans and ages. Of course these are starting 'asking' prices. As Joan said, condition, options, color and location all have a bearing on the final prices paid. The final price that the buyer is willing to pay is what it is worth. As the years go by, and demographics change, the value of the dollar can affect all RV's also. RonB 2 Likes

The buyer immediately backed it into a tree and the insurance company totaled it at 14k and that was trade in value so 18k purchase price was spot on. 3 Likes

Has it been garage kept or left out in the elements. Has the roof been resealed and do the plastic covers need to be replaced. Have the windows and edge seam covers been resealed properly.What factory options were added. Is there rust on the undercarriage. Do you have organized maint records that document oil changes, brake flushes,coolant, trans, and differential drain and reseal. After ten years or at 100k all the coolant hoses, reservoir and heater hoses should be replaced. The dreaded spark plug replacement, drive belt, belt tenstioner and idler pulley. The pvc and hose.Tires recently replaced....valve stem seals replace with new tiresBrakes...calipers are notorious for sticking due to sitting up and not changing brake fluid once a year but deffinately every 2 years. Brakes lines collapse due to age and cause caliper issues.Has it been in any accidents and repaired properly...is the title clean and not a salvage title. Any water leaks, mold or wood rot.Power steering fluid exchange.Does it have original dash ac and hosesOriginal alternatorOriginal radiator and water pump on engine.Recently replaced house batteries and engine batteries.Is the fuel pump original and the hoses on top of the gas tank.Has the generator had any maint and the carb rebuilt with fuel line replaced to gas tank...oil changes. Have sea foam or fuel stabilizer been run in the gas tank to help keep ethanol deposits from causes full system issues for engine and generator.Look at the appliances for heavy use...has the rig been used full time..cooking odors, pet odors, smoking, etc. I replaced my fridge ...old one still worked but we all know the issues with rv fridged...was it always run with rv level? We're the heater and water heater properly maintained, drained and flushed, an odd replaced if it has one. Will the toliet or water pump (in house) need replacing soon. Have the holding tanks been cleaned after each use...do sensors work...any water lines leaks...repairs...These are the things I looked at during my long search for my LD.If you are lucky enough to find one on the east coast and close to home then you save here too. A plane ticket to California, rental car, hotel, food, gas back home and rv camps sites are in the range of 3k or more . You need to be dedicates to maintaining and caring for these magnificent rare rvs. It takes money and work to keep an older LD in working order. Years of enjoyment takes work. I can be a maintenace freak but it has always paid off in the long run. Preventive maintenace is key to fun rv ownership.I could go on but I think I've been clear..lol 4 Likes
