Gus Weber
Those of you who have been around a while will remember Gus Weber of Cedaredge, CO who was an active poster back in the early 2000s. He died last Sept. Gustave Weber Jr. - Delta County Independent

Pat and I visited Gus and Shirley in Cedaredge in Sept. 2001 to check out their new LD, just before we traveled to the Mothership in Oct. to order our '02 LD. This trip is seared on my brain because just as we were to leave Denver, the airplanes hit the twin towers.

Gus and Shirley rolled their MB on slick roads sometime after they got it (no injuries). Famously, it suffered little damage (as I recall), but I believe he got another one. There probably is a photo of that rollover in the archives.

May Gus rest in peace.

We met Gus and Shirley at one of our Great Lakes LD Caravan rallies in Door County WI shortly before they rolled the MB. Good folks both. As I recall, a semi cut them off and made them swerve then rollover on an icy CO road. The LD was heavily damaged but held together saving them from major injuries. I believe they did get another LD.

RIP Gus

I'm very sorry to hear of Gus's death; he was an active member of the LD forum during the time I was researching Lazy Daze. He was always willing to share his knowledge and experience, and his advice and suggestions were always on point and very welcome.

Ok, reading his obituary just gave me goosebumps.......I'm pretty sure he and my Dad worked together at Rockwell or crossed paths....my Dad was also involved with the submarine guidance work by Rockwell in California....after his time in the Navy he spent his entire career at Rockwell before passing away a few months before retirement.....I'll have to dig through the various correspondence we received after Dad's unexpected passing to see if Gus was one of the folks.....thanks for sharing.....another "small world" example....

Chris,

Being a relatively late arrival to the LDO family, I was not fortunate enough to meet Gus. Perhaps some day.

Your comment about his LD accident had me curious as I have been collecting images of Lazy Daze rigs for nearly five years now. This evening I came across this image of a capsized LD and was curious if perhaps this was Gus’ rig.

Just curious since you mentioned it.

The following was Gus Weber's next to last post, which was a reply to Eric Greenwell.  Clearly, Mr. Weber was a hardcore RVer.

Yahoo Message Number: 126976
Eric:  I had a 1998 V-10 MB, and drove it 185,000 miles before selling it to get a new one.  Not once did I have to add oil between 5,000 mile changes, not even the last one before selling it.

Gus was one of our original Yahoo forum members, joining the Love My Lazy Daze RV group  (which was the precursor to the LWALD group) back in October of 2000. He will be missed.

It would be nice to know the backstory of that wreck.

And, as I recall, Gus was a member of the Lazy Daze Newsgroup on Usenet before that.  I first met him at the Mothership in early 2000 as I was ordering our 2000 MB.  He was quite the gentleman and very helpful as I considered the various options with Steve.  I agree, he will be missed by many.

Fond memories of Gus as one of the "old-timers" here who were so much help to us as we learned about LD motorhomes before buying ours in 2003. It was the LD forum in whatever guise it existed at that time that brought LD clearly into our crosshairs and those, like Gus, who comprised that group have our eternal gratitude. I've always owned "cult" vehicles, the best sign of a good product IMO. People like Gus who joined the cult early and testified to the goodness of what they'd found made all the difference to me. If there's an RV park in heaven I suspect Gus is parked there.

Kent, I don't believe I responded to your comment. If you saw that photo in the archives, then I believe it's Gus's LD. I was snooping through the Yahoo media files the other day and saw it there.
