We have a Fellowship Dinner at the United Methodist Church in town on Wednesdays during the school year & they are our guests while they're in town, the two small Methodist churches in the country take another night, the two Baptist churches in town take a night a night each...can't remember who else. I think they stay at one of the trailer parks in town, since we don'l have an RV park.I met a United Methodist Escapees BOF group that does something similar when I went to the Escapade in Tucson in 2014...that's on my list when the brush finally gets whacked.Lynne 2 Likes

Re: RV Care-A-Vanners Reply #3 – June 26, 2019, 01:26:32 pm I don't know much about the national Habitat Program, except that Jimmy & Rosalyn Carter have a long involvement (actually swinging a hammer, not just being a figurehead), and after I read your post just now, I think I recall our local group splitting off to form a separate local entity (something about insurance/tax status/???).Indeed, as I've read some of the posts here about non-moblie RVs parked on streets & the general issue of homelessness, & consumed national print/TV/Radio stories, I am in shock with what is surely a crisis (though we do have a crisis shelter here, because even in our burg in the boonies it is a reality that people ignored for too long because that was only a problem in KC/California/etc.). Twenty-five years ago we had a young woman move back to town--she'd gone to SoCal after college/married a young man starting out in ministry & our church hired him as the youth director. Jenny talked about the fact that even then they knew they would never have been able to afford a house out there. My Realtor father impressed the location-location-location mantra upon us when I was a kid, but I was appalled when my son was stationed at Ft. Hood in 2008; right before the crash they bought a little nothing of a house for nearly 1/4 milllion --smaller than the one he was raised in (built in 1962 & for which I paid $45K in 1989 (the starter homes in that neighborhood are now in the $80-90K range, though there are some larger/ remodeled ones going for over $100K). I know Kansas City/Columbia (University town)/St. Louis are certainly more than out here in the boonies, but I cannot fathom the notion of being a teacher/nurse/social worker/plumber/ carpenter/etc. & facing the kinds of prices y'all have. That was one criteria I set for myself when I began looking for an RV--I wasn't going to pay more than I had for my house & boy did I luck out!Lynne

Bay Area in '76 they were still in the five digit range. Now, were I to be house hunting, I could not afford the house I'm living in.
