Summer cleanup and checkup
Nothing says summer's here like my annual cleanup of 'Baxter's' roof.  The yearly battle of mold removal.  Ah the joy of standing on the roof covered with soapy water.  Scrub brush in hand and on my knees, poor old knees.

Also this year new spark plug, oil change and air filter for the generator.  And to add insult a new propane detector.   Is there no end to it......  :'(  :'(  :'(

For a rig that spends its winter in a wet and cool climate, that's a clean roof.
Do you get a lot of black streaks running down the sides?

Thinking how our LD's roof needs a deep cleaning.

One difficult element to roof cleaning is how to scrub under the solar panels, particularly when the panels (I have three) are placed closely together and there is little space to maneuver at all, let alone to kneel, even if I could figure out an effective way to clean underneath the panels. I already have to tiptoe around all the stuff on top; unfortunately, my levitation skills are non-existent. Any suggestions to how to scrub the roof under the solar panels are welcome!

Joan, my panels have a knob on each inside end & the outboard side allows for the bolts to serve as a sort of hinge (I've sometimes thought about figuring out a way to angle them to get better charging with the winter sun--as Andy talked of doing with his--but climbing on the roof in the winter in Missouri has discouraged that action so far.  However, when I scrubbed the roof a couple of years back, I did unscrew the knobs at each end of the panels & lift up gently to attack the underlying crud (I used a gallon ice cream bucket to prop each panel up while I scrubbed)...sounds like a good reminder that I need to attend to this when I return from Texas--if it ever stops raining in north Missouri   >:( .

I was so proud of myself when I got that chore done I serenaded the neighbors by channeling Helen Reddy (I Am Woman.  Hear Me Roar   ::) )--the young man whacking some of the bushes in my front yard found the eccentric/crazy/odd/weird performance moderately amusing; the neighbors just ignored me & carried on with their lives...   ;D

Truth be told ..... I try to stay ahead of the mold.   Roof cleaning is done at least three times a year.  I use a generic auto washing soap. (I did learn after five or six times climbing the up to the roof with a full bucket of water to fill the bucket on top of Baxter. Makes an easier climb - not as exciting I agree)   I have a soft brush to scrub  the roof, vent covers, under vent covers and under TV antena.   I loosen the dirt/mold under the solar panels with a long rag push under with a yard stick then use a strong stream of water to flush out the dirt/mold.
DW will not let me climb up on the roof unless she is home.   I agree with her a drop off the roof will not be a fun trip.  OK the fall wouldn't be bad it's the sudden stop at the end that would be the issue.

Similar to ideas that I'm working on to scrub under the panels; this "toilet brush" might work. If not, I'll cobble up some sort of brush/scrub sponge/stick.

Your wife is being polite.
It can be embarrassing to have the neighbors find your body first.

I was thinking of a brush on a stick.
One of these look interesting - attach a handle onto them.  However it doesn't say how tall they are.

Chris, that is what I was thinking of - I just didn't know they made them in that size (vs bottle straw size).
