2005 FL questions May 10, 2019, 02:32:15 pm Good Morning FolksWe just returned from a 10 day loop from az to tx and back metal detecting and discovering some new things to ask questions about. First the Ford has 49k on it and after about 2-3 k I noticed the oil down about 1/2 to 3/4 quart. I only owned one big v10 before but it used none or at least not anything noticeable. Is this a common thing or is it unusual for them to use oil??Next the vanity in the bathroom has developed some serious cracks in the gel coat on the top rim is this something that has been common? Is there somewhere that redoes the gel coat ? Last one the linoleum in the coach. we have carpet front half and a small amount in the bath area. Is there anyone that knows if the carpet can be removed and leave the linoleum or is there linoleum I guess is the question under the carpet??? My guess is they lay full coach of linoleum in the manufactureing and then add cabinets and carpet where ordered?? Thanks for all the crazy questions. Grumpy 2005 FL and henry the corgi.

Re: 2005 FL questions Reply #4 – May 10, 2019, 07:42:43 pm Your oil consumption is within the normal range. You could experiment with "high mileage" and/or synthetic oils to see if that makes a difference. Frank
Re: 2005 FL questions Reply #5 – May 10, 2019, 08:21:48 pm Our LD's original engine, with 100,000 miles on it used a quart per 3000 miles. When it was time to add oil, it was changed instead. The new engine uses very little oil. It seems V10s have a wide range of oil usage, that said, your oil consumption is within the normal range.As Chris said, a photo of the gel coat crack would be helpful.Larry
Re: 2005 FL questions Reply #6 – May 10, 2019, 08:27:22 pm I wouldn't consider 3/4 of a quart in 3,000 miles to be anything more than normal. In my Dodge Cummins normal is about 1/2 gallon in 3,000 miles. The engine is now at 500,000 miles though.

I suggest looking for someone who does fiberglass repair work, especially a boat place. I know someone who had a similar crack in her shower, and the repair was not terribly expensive and was invisible.Ken F in OR

Re: 2005 FL questions Reply #10 – May 14, 2019, 11:58:00 am Esther, I want to change my response but not my recommendation. I have looked again, and thought about, those cracks. For something heavy enough and hard enough to crack that material from being dropped on it, the surface would almost certainly have missing chips, not just cracks. I see no chips, so I no longer think it is from a vertical impact. The cracks seem to generally run parallel to the rounded front lip of the surface, with a concentration point an inch to 1.5 inches in from the edge. I can think of two things that might have done this. One is someone prying the counter up from underneath, either with a pry bar of some sort or by driving a wedge underneath, as if they were trying to remove the counter top. The other is something exerting a LOT of force against the vertical face of that edge. The only thing I can imagine doing that is someone either removing or replacing the toilet and, in the process, slamming it into the edge of the counter top.Either way, the treatment is to have a pro at working with fiberglass cut out the bad stuff and make a good fiberglass repair. A cosmetic treatment such as paint wont fix it. The structure seems to have been damaged, so a structural repair is needed.Ken F in OR

Any way the short of it is if it is new Mom says it is me or that is what she is implying and since im the biggest by far I have to say she might be right. I do have lupus and tend to lose balance once in a while and such. The fix is first the fiberglass repair and second pay attention to more details. Thanks all. Grumpyps there are no chips or indications of blunt force I can see.
