Woo hoo! 165 miles and second night of our maiden voyage! April 18, 2019, 12:39:58 am Hey all!We finally done did it! Left Oakland yesterday for the delta. Spent one night in an RV park ( definitely not for me), and then at the suggestion of a fellow LDer on Facebook page, hightailed it out of that tree lined parking lot for a real campground. I'm here with the dogs AND the cat in Sycamore Ranch near Oroville, relaxing after eating a delicious steak dinner cooked in my kitchen.F'n awesome. I'm so glad I stayed in my LD in my backyard for a few nights before trying her on the road. I knew how to use all the hookups, turn everything on, level my rig, and all that. Even Dumped black tank today, though the dump hole was too high so the park owner explained how I had to "walk" the nasty along the hose. Gross. So far so good! Did have a eye opener moment when I came back to LD in Walmart parking lot to find it was way too hot inside for the animals. They were OK, but I didn't expect that when it wasn't that warm out and the windows are all tinted. (And I did leave windows open for them). We drove rest of way with generator on and cooler running in back. I guess going forward any shopping trips on warm days will require generator and cooler. Oh, and the jetpack is fantastic. I have no T-Mobile service here but I can use WiFi to call friends and family! 11 Likes

Re: Woo hoo! 165 miles and second night of our maiden voyage! Reply #7 – April 18, 2019, 06:45:20 pm Lisa, you can stay another night, I think. See the other thread. If you are dripping from the pressure relief valve, the post before mine, posted while I was typing, tells you exactly what to do. If the leak is not from the pressure relief valve, but is getting onto the floor under the heater, then dripping into the compartment below, your water heater tank has a leak and needs to be replaced. I went three weeks from the time I spotted my leak until I replaced the heater. So, you are ok for a while.Ken F in NM 1 Likes

Re: Woo hoo! 165 miles and second night of our maiden voyage! Reply #9 – April 18, 2019, 11:00:43 pm We use sensorpush The easiest way to monitor the environmental conditions affecting the things... - it will take the temperature (wherever you put it/them) and using a gateway connect to your hotspot so that you can see the temp in the rig when you are not there (if you have internet access via cell or another hotspot). IMO - A must with pets unless you are in nice cool areas - vehicles get hot quickly and get much hotter than outside, even when to us outside weather feels fine. We use it also for our fridge/freezer so we see all the temps in the rig while we are gone.Having a vent fan on can help also, we find that if it is less than 90 out, with mylar on windows that have sun on them and a vent roof fan on, the rig stays tolerable inside. Over 90 outside and we need the AC on. Our pets are pros at finding the coolest spots in the rig when it warms up, even if it means giving up their view and laying on the floor under the AC (I don't keep the AC on a warmer temp as it quickly gets too cold for me when it is on medium or coldest). 2 Likes

No water anywhere in the HWH panel (that area you can see from outside the vehicle. ) Where would I see it on the floor? The HWH seems to be under the fridge in my LD, behind some drawers. I have not found any water inside my LD. It did eventually stop once I turned off the water pump. I moved my vehicle (unrelated) and it did not start leaking again after the move. I have since turned on the pump again and am periodically checking to see if the leak has returned. I really wish I had brought more beer. That was my biggest mistake on this trip.

But now I want one with a 454 engine and everything in better shape (systems, that is. The interior in mine is quite nice).Someone on here sent me a message recently about another MP with the 454 that they are considering selling. I may consider that. I'm ready to buy some land outside the city and would be ok staying in an LD for a while. I want quiet, nature, and space for me and the dogs. Houses in the bay area are ridiculously overpriced and I'm pissed about paying such high property taxes and getting no services. I'd rather live on some land and do what I want with it and pay less money for the privilege.Sorry, I'm ranting because I have but one beer left and I have to make it last the rest of the night. 1 Likes

Re: Woo hoo! 165 miles and second night of our maiden voyage! Reply #13 – April 19, 2019, 10:29:42 am Not sure if you have used your a/c or not. It may be the source of the water leak. If you are in just about any area were the water content in the air is 'high' your a/c will wring in out. glen

The E450 has more powerful engine along with a heavy duty chassis, compared to your lightweight LD's G30 chassis, plus it is a newer design that will get better mileage, along with more power, better brakes and has a much higher GVW. A LD with the 454 will still have the same lightweight chassis and low GVW.We owned a 1983 LD for eight years and were never happy about how underpowered it was and how the chassis 'felt' soft and flexible, which is was. Even LD's Steve admits the G30 was never a strong chassis but was all that was available at the time. The first drive in a E450 was amazing and was all it took to realize we needed a newer LD.I have a feeling that the upcoming E450, with the new 7.3-L engine and 10-speed transmission, will offer a similar experience.Larry 1 Likes

When your driving the dash AC will cool the RV. Just open the rear most hatch a crack, not a lot. This will let the hot air escape, and suck the cool air from the cabin through the rest of the RV. Cars use the same principle to cool the interior. The opening is generally in the trunk or in the case of a station wagon (aka cross over, sport ute etc) near the tailgate. This also helps with warming the RV in cold weather. Nothing wrong with using the generator, just thought I would mention this so you have a backup plan.John 1 Likes

The dash portion definitely doesn't work. Some air does blow out the bottom by my feet, but it's not sufficient to cool down the vehicle. I had the blowers checked out at the mechanic, but he said they don't have the machine needed to suck out the refrigerant and test, so I have to go to a place that does. Right now I'm not sure what I'm going to do next, but I'm thinking I may just start looking for a newer LD rather than put more money into this one. I want this floorplan, though, so it's going to be a bit difficult.
