Chemical smell from new windshield adhesive?
Hey folks,

It finally started warming up here and I noticed a really strong chemical smell in my LD the past couple days I was in there. At first I worried it was the fridge, but it's not an ammonia smell. It smells like some kind of adhesive and I'm pretty sure it's the same smell I noticed when I first had the windshield replaced a week ago. It makes me kind of sick.

Could there be anything else making that smell? And if it is the windshield adhesive, any idea how long it will be offgassing like this? I'm already having migraines and I don't really want to increase the frequency by being around that stink, so it'll be kind of hard to stay in there if i can't get rid of the smell.

It's impossible to say what the 'smell' might be, but you might want to contact whoever installed the new windshield and ask what they used to 'glue' the glass into place; look up the MSDS on the adhesive and go from there. Safelite installed a new windshield in my rig several months ago, and there was no smell (and I have a very sensitive 'smeller') from the installation.

Was there any other repair or replacement done that might be producing the smell?

None of which I am aware. But I no longer think it's from the window.  The smell is (once again) coming from the kitchen area. Under the sink area is strongest, just like  with that propane smell. I keep worrying it's the fridge, but there is no smell inside the fridge or freezer and it's definitely not an ammonia smell.  It dissipates pretty quickly when I open the windows, but it's a pungent, chemical odor.  I checked the fridge and other compartments outside, and I don't smell anything.

I am going to stay in it tonight or tomorrow night, so hopefully I won't die. I have the CO alarm and I have windows that I can leave open.  I guess another trip to the RV shop before I drive to Italy...
