Disappointing news
I picked up the 2000 MB that I inherited from David Forness in FL and drove it back to NC towing his 2011 CR-V. First, I had to get new tires, brakes, calipers and battery. I had some other maintenance done and had a back-up camera added. But, there are several problems. The floor in the kitchen is rotten and has to be covered with a board to keep from falling through. And there is bad rotting around the bottom of the side windows in the back. (He had resealed the seams and end caps and there is no evidence of leaks on the inside.)
Sadly, the repairs are more than is reasonable for me to tackle. With a very heavy heart, I will be selling this beloved rig. How do I come up with a fair price?? And, should I sell it with the CR-V?
Besides the damage, there have been many changes to the interior that make it difficult to put a value on. There are wonderful organizational improvements including several custom cabinets to make use of wasted space and a bit of redesigning here and there. Since I never anticipated selling this LD, when I owned it with David, I painted every inch of it in colors that will not appeal to a broad audience...mostly reds and yellows. It is a bright and whimsical space....garish to some!
I would appreciate some guidance on how to figure out a price for this one of a kind rig.
Also, I have looked around on this site and find it quite difficult to navigate since I am basically a luddite. I may need a lot of help trying to post my LD for sale.
Thanks everyone!

I'm sorry that you're dealing with this.  As you realize, the rig is in tough shape and it's a special situation that is going to take a unique buyer.

First, I would consider the CRV to be separate from the RV.  The CRV may well be the more valuable of the two, especially since it's already set up as a toad.

For the RV, I think it's best to take good pictures, document the problems well, and then use something like craigslist to expose it to a large number of buyers.  It might take some time and patience, but it does have some value and there is someone out there who will take a chance on a project.

I have no idea where to price it.  Maybe start around $5k, be patient, and prepare to hear some low offers.  It's really hard to say without knowing much more about the condition.

Hope that helps.  Hopefully others will chime in.

How about getting an estimate for the repairs and deducting that cost from what one in good shape would sell for?

A very difficult pricing situation for sure.  According to information on this Forum a 2000 MB in working order might have an asking price of $16,500.   For that price, most buyers would be expecting that everything works.  More importantly, they'd expect that the "house" was solid since major house repairs can easily exceed the value of an older Rig.

If we wanted a LD project and we were looking at your LD, I'd would need to determine the cost of the repairs you mentioned in your post.   So you might seek out several RV repair shops for estimates that have experience with replacing the damaged floor and possibly rear wall rot.  You might be able to get an over-the-phone ballpark estimate from the LD Factory.  So with this information, as mentioned above, you could reduce the asking price of $16,500 by the cost of repairs.

Finally, there's several members of this Forum who have purchased a Lazy Daze in need of substantial repair and given them new life.  So if your LD is priced right, there's a decent chance that someone will want this project.  Best of luck with your LD.

I have looked around on this site and find it quite difficult to navigate since I am basically a luddite. I may need a lot of help trying to post my LD for sale.

Step #1.  Go this part of this Forum - Placing a classified ad

Step #2.  Copy the For Sale template for listing your LD (all that information under Chris' name).

Step #3.  Go to the Classified Section of this Forum at Classifieds .  Select New Topic and paste the information you copied in Step #2 into the New Topic.  Finally, complete the information on the  template you just pasted and use the Other notables section to add any information not listed in the upper section.

Hope this helps.

If you don’t need the money you could consider a donation to charity. Many will take it and get a few bucks for their mission.

Good luck, Dave
