wire run from battery compartment to microwave compartment in 01 MB
Hello all,

I'm looking to install a battery monitor display in the paneling above the microwave in my 01 MB. I'm trying to figure out the best way to route the wiring. Looks like it might be possible to drill thru the cab beside the freezer into the dead space behind the freezer and come down into the battery box from above from the fridge access panel outside. I'm not very fond of this idea as I think the heat from the back fridge unit might be a bit much.

I've taken the microwave out, and I can see some wires are running behind the paneling. Is there any open spaces behind the panel and the outside skin that I might be able to snake wires thru? I'm going to assume it's all filled w/ some sort of insulation that was built around the factory installed wiring.

My other thought is to go thru the battery box into the space under the stove, across the back way to near the vent stack and then go up thru the counter to the cabinets there. I can cover that with some wire run U channel.

henness-

If you end up choosing not to run up behind the refrigerator, you could run the cable under the galley counter. That is what I did. I mounted the displays for both the battery monitor and the Progressive Industries EMS on the inside of the door below the sink. It worked out great... When I wanted to look at the displays, I could, and when I didn't, they were out of sight.

Sean,

Here’s an interesting video from AM Solar on the installation of the Victron BMV-712 battery monitor.  https://youtu.be/tV055vmZgvY

I don’t have any personal experience with battery monitors other than the Blue Sky Solar Boost 3000i as it was installed in our RB.

I refrain from drilling, probing or otherwise making holes in our LD anywhere on my own. We do have the quick connect for the Wave 6 but that was done by the fine folks at MyersRv.

This Victon has Bluetooth capability and you can just leave the physical monitor tucked away inside the battery bay. This would be my preferred location.

Like I said, I am not familiar with this particular monitor but I’ve heard good things about Victron and AM Solar so it may be worth looking into.

I run them up through the refrigerator area, entering from beneath the refrigerator and then back into the upper cabinet.
Do a lot of double and triple checking of your measurements when drilling the holes into and out of the refrigerator compartment. You can access the floor of the refrigerator panel after removing the screwed in back panel, in the rear of the interior cabinet under the refrigerator.

If you have future plans of adding antennas or solar, this may be a good time to run the extra wires, using the refrigerator vent as the exit to the roof.
Cover all the wires in a split wire cover. Attach it away from the refrigerator' boiler and chimney and clamp them to a side wall.

For a few small wires, vent pipe can be used as wire runs as long as the two drilled holes are well sealed.
