Re: The Audubon Bird Guide App Reply #3 – February 15, 2019, 12:16:30 pm I downloaded the app and my initial enthusiasm has been dampered with my first search for the woodpecker (flicker) hanging out on our front porch. Easy to find in our Audubon field guide but not so easy on the app. Flickers dont show up in the bird family search function or under woodpecker. Had to search flicker to find it in the app while it is listed with woodpeckers in their book. App needs work.

My wife just went to a local chapter meeting and they stated that Kern County is one of the better areas for bird watching in the country. Who knew?Birding on the Kern River Preserve and South Fork Kern River
Re: The Audubon Bird Guide App Reply #5 – February 15, 2019, 05:10:42 pm Here is another option which is the one I use. The pro version costs $15 but I find it easier to carry than Peterson and Sibley guides (have trouble deciding which so I end up with both sometimes).IBIRD PROThere are others as well.Joel 2 Likes
Re: The Audubon Bird Guide App Reply #6 – February 16, 2019, 10:27:23 pm The "playable calls" feature is interesting. A long-time friend who is a professional photographer discovered that if one plays the call of a bird to lure it into range to photograph it, there is a very serious fine when a ranger or wildlife officer discovers you!
