Water Pump October 23, 2018, 08:54:51 am Yup it's my and I think this forum's third more fav topic...... behind tires and oil changes.The problemIt seems when it cold - cold being near freezing - the water pump comes on. Yup just starts running. Somewhere around mid day after it warms up - the water pump works normally.The planThis morning I plan to re-create the temperature and adjust the by-pass screw. I'll keep you'all updated.

An internal temperature sensor detects near freezing temps and turns the pump on, when it gets too cold, to prevent the formation of ice crystals in the pump, which can lead to cracking of the pump's housing.Wishing it was April 1.Larry
Re: Water Pump Reply #2 – October 23, 2018, 10:30:37 pm RE: "... a pump with an automatic, anti-freezing feature?"Is this a real thing...or like the time I took a wiring class at the local vo-tech's night classes, & a guy told me to get him "a left-handed screwdriver" (apparently not recognizing that "the girl" in the class--who was probably older than he was--didn't just fall off the manure spreader yesterday ).We used to leave the tap running in our laundry room on the farm because there was only an uninsulated crawl space--when we first moved there the neighbors called us when the first freeze happened to tell us to do this; apparently the water line on that end of town was not properly installed, but the city never re-did it--everybody had to keep a drizzle going, because if one person froze up, it could back up the line & affect the next house. If this is for real, I'd certainly like to swap out the pump I have. It wouldn't eliminate winterizing, but perhaps give me a little wiggle room if it was colder than the pump liked.Back in north Missouri tonight, but no calls for frost/freezing weather--quite a difference coming north & getting into Kansas...fall is definitely here, where the leaves & grass in Texas were still quite green.Lynne

Seems it was removed or was knock off during a drive up I-5.

I'll do random tests between now and weatherizing time. I will also buy a backup.BTW is there a good direct replacement for the Shurflo 4008 waterpump?
