Automatic choke on generator December 26, 2018, 03:26:26 pm Should the pronged choke tab where the hearing coil meshes with be spring loaded?Mine isn't and I didn't want to tear into it further without confirmation.ThanksON EDIT: It is vacuum controlled I found out.Another question(s):Shouldn't the heating coil remain very warm to the touch during operation of the generator?If you look closely at the tab it appears a plastic sheath is missing?Where does the heating coil insert? Between the tabs?
Re: Automatic choke on generator Reply #1 – December 26, 2018, 06:01:06 pm If it is anything like an electric choke on a vehicle carb, the spring cools down to close the choke. You should find a neutral spot where there is only enough tension to close the choke. There may be a couple marks that line up when the two halves are back together. Once you are back together with the 3 screws loose you can rotate the half with the spring richer ( more choke) or leaner ( less ) until it runs smooth after warm up if it stays closed to long the engine will flood. The electric heater heats the spring and will force the choke open. The spring stays warm to keep the choke open, as soon as power is off it will cool and close the choke. That's kind of the theory anyway. Back in the old days it used to be a small line off the exhaust manifold and would blow exhaust gas on it to heat the spring.
