Cab window tinting September 29, 2018, 10:28:15 pm Has anyone tinted their driver or passenger side cab windows? Is it even legal to do so in Ca.? I would very much like to match those windows to the darkness of the coach windows. On a recent trip home to Downey from the Bishop area I had a very bright distracting glare from the east for my entire morning ride of about 4 hours.Dale from Downey.

Recently there was a discussion on LDO regarding noise cancelling headphones for LD owners. Knowing the current law (has it changed?) in the Golden State regarding headphones perhaps limousine dark drivers windows for the LD could be a good thing 😉. That would be “two strikes”. Tinted cab windows would be more comfortable at times, but I'd be concerned about twilight driving and night driving. At twilight, many cars haven't turned on their lights, making them harder to see (oncoming, or just changing lanes on a freeway, eg). and worse, many are "road colored", with gray or darker colors. At night, driving around town means pedestrians are harder to see when turning corners. At my 75 years, I find I need more light for tasks than I used to, and the reduction by tinted windows doesn't help!For daylight driving, the cab window shade does the job most of the time, and the situations where it doesn't tend to be short. My wife uses a tinted shade with suction cups ocasionally, and that seems to satisfy her.

Before I could get it registered in California I had to have it inspected at my local DMV. The inspector immediately failed the tint on the front side windows, which took a bit of work to remove. The glass was already tinted, like my Ford cab windows. Re-inspection passed the windows, but took about 3 months to pass other infractions. You can put on darker tints, but there is a maximum allowed on the side windows. Keep the certification paperwork with you in case you are stopped. A friend of mine bought a new to her auto, that had darker tinted windows from a 'Ca. registered Dealer'. A week or so in after purchase she got a ticket , which was very expensive, and had the tinting removed from just the front side windows. (rear door windows weren't mentioned). She wouldn't reveal the cost of the ticket, but more than the several hundred to remove the tinting on just two windows. RonB 1 Likes

Since your coach can hide a huge crowd of nefarious gang members, don't expect the experience to be pleasant. Dealing with glare is a small price to pay to give the illusion of benign innocence to passing law enforcement...Steve 1 Likes

Whenever I stop for a California Agricultural Inspection Station the most often question you would expect is "Do you have any fruits or vegetables?" but instead it will very likely be "Is anyone else traveling with you?". 2 Likes
