Two weeks away!?  Woo Hoo!!!

I have no doubt you are going to LOVE retirement.  As for me, my days are even more full, but all (OK, most) of my projects are things I want to do. Yesterday working on the Jeep, today fixing things in the Lazy Daze, tomorrow fixing a leaking dinghy, and  few hours to read every night.  Eat when you are hungry, rest when you are tired, wake when you are rested.  Quite different from working!

Let's hope the fires get put out cuz I'm looking forward to Yosemite!

Every time I put a dog down, it breaks my heart and I tell my wife "I'm done.  No more dogs."  Then after a few months of putting my plate on the floor after dinner and noticing that it doesn't get licked off, getting full nights of sleep without the dog howling at passing emergency vehicles, and taking walks without stopping at each vertical object for a little pee and then having to pick up and bag the calling cards, we end up adopting another one.  They are never a replacement for the last, but a whole new sentient being in the house who moves into or hearts and fills the doggy void.

Damn good bicycle guard, as well!

Prior to my recent trip, I made several “bike security” purchases via Amazon.

After watching multiple videos from “The Lock Picking Lawyer” on YouTube, I chose to select Abus as my security provider.

Rated from 1-10 (10 being the most secure) I chose the Abus Granite 37/80 (rated a 10) as my padlock to secure my Abus 8KS Chain (not cable) to the rear of the LD.

The Lock Picking Lawyer gives the Granite 37/80 very high marks for lock picking resistance and the High Shackle Guard makes cutting the shackle very unlikely. Especially for me since a would be thief would have to lie on
his back to get to it.

I also purchased the Abus Granite X-Plus 540 U Lock to secure both bikes to the LD bike carrier. Another very highly regarded Abus product. The U-Lock mounts through my bike frame and is very useful when locking the bikes up while out on the town.

While mounted on the LD rack, I also run the Abus chain from the hitch, through the U-Lock where it is then locked to another Abus 8 KS chain that is passed through the tires of both bikes. An Abus 92/80 Monoblock lock secures all the chains together at this point.

Cables for bike security are virtually useless as demonstrated by this video. https://youtu.be/-rphMwxTr54

Hence my decision to choose the Abus chains.

A bike thief will have to be talented, desperate and in no hurry to steal our bikes. At least while I’ve got em locked up.
