resurrecting old vent garnishes
Rehabilitating the old garnish on the front and rear vents.

Lazy Daze no longer carries them and even though I found 3 other aftermarket garnishes with the 14 x 14 x 2.75 inch measurements, none of them fit. So I did a re-hab.

FRONT GARNISH
Was in 3 pieces, screw holes intact. Used instant glue and gorilla tape on the underside to bolster it. However, because of where the splits were, it needed top surface reinforcement at the cracks as well. Used Sugru to do that and Sharpie pens to embellish.
Looks better than more gorilla tape.  😉

REAR GARNISH
It was in one piece, but every pressure point was cracked and 2 of the screw hole sections were missing. Used instant glue and gorilla tape to secure washers over the missing screw hole sections, as well as the cracks.  I drilled out the center of 4 drawer pulls, then cut the heads off of 4 screws that matched the size of the original screws but were longer. Put the clipped end of the screws into the drilled holes of the drawer pulls and secured with epoxy.
The drawer pulls throw a lot of refracted light, kinda pretty!! Couldn’t get a good shot of it.
Their flat base also helps fill in and stabilize the missing screw sections.

Later on when your purse is flush you may want to consider one or more fully powered fans in those 14x14" vents. Especially that funky little thing in the bath. They would all come with new garnish rims. Power can be acquired from the nearest light fixture.

That is the EXACT model and brand I picked out!!!  The rear vent has power but the front does not. The nearest light fixture to the front vent is a bit tweaked. (see pix).  Think it will still work as a power source?
When the light is used for the fan power, do you lose the use of the light?  Got any suggestions about where I see how its done and what it looks like afterward?

To get power for the fan from the light fixture shown, you will have to remove the light housing from the ceiling to access the power wires going to the switch. Splice into the wires before the switch for the fan and that will not affect the light switch. Search DC wire splice connectors on Amazon for the best way to do the wire splicing.  As you are using LEDs for lights there the fan will not affect their use. The ballast shown  appears to be disconnected and should be so.  It appears the LED strip doesn't provide much light for its small size and length. I replaced my fluorescence bulbs with double row LED strips from:  <http://www.jirahled.com>   See:  JC-72-FL-T FLUORESCENT TUBE UPGRADE - TWIN PACK. Lots of bright light there and uses minimal power. Most of my interior LED replacement lighting came from Jarah.

Just a general need advice question.......
When I have the MAXXAIR fan replacements done, it will be at an RV dealer or RV repair shop. I would like them to use DICOR butyl tape and lap sealant.
What are your all's opinions on the advantages or disadvantages of my purchasing the fan units, butyl tape and sealant myself and then taking it in to have the work done?
I really have no experience with RV repair service and no idea what to expect or how not to get ripped off.
right now, they'd see me coming for a mile, I'd like to whittle that down to 400 yards or so....  ;)

"...an RV dealer or RV repair shop."

I would avoid utilizing an 'RV dealer' unless I had prior knowledge of their business practices and abilities! That said, I routinely utilize an RV repair shop... however I've been doing business with this particular one for years and have explicit confidence in his work, just as I did Mike Sylvester, God bless his soul.   :(
