Piece of plastic hanging down at front May 26, 2018, 02:00:11 pm Hello. I noticed last night a piece of plastic hanging down from below the rig, at the front, on the passenger side. See picture. What is this? I’m traveling right now and don’t really know what to do here. Thanks for your replies.
Re: Piece of plastic hanging down at front Reply #1 – May 26, 2018, 02:42:00 pm Good question. I’m away from my rig at the moment. Does it appear to have fallen loose? Not some sort of road debris?I carry extra large zip ties with me as part of my “kit”. If this “Flap” looks to be part of the undercarriage (a shield of some sort), perhaps it could be secured with a zip tie temporarily.Best of luck.Kent 1 Likes
Re: Piece of plastic hanging down at front Reply #2 – May 26, 2018, 02:43:22 pm I don’t have anything that looks like that on my 2012. It looks as though a protective shield of some type has come loose and is hanging down. I would crawl under there and push it up to see if possibly I could tell where it came from. Dale from Downey.
Re: Piece of plastic hanging down at front Reply #3 – May 26, 2018, 03:44:57 pm It a plastic splash shield that limits water on the road from spraying on the engine. It is held in place with two plastic push pins. One of the pins has fallen out and needs to be replaced ASAP, to prevent losing the shield.Larry 3 Likes
Re: Piece of plastic hanging down at front Reply #4 – May 26, 2018, 04:09:18 pm Larry beat me to it. Our 2007 has the same shield, it was redesigned sometime after that so that it doesn't extend down as far. Maybe a zip-tie would work as a temporary fix. It's going to be tight getting under there (at least it's tight for me).Charles 2 Likes
Re: Piece of plastic hanging down at front Reply #5 – May 31, 2018, 10:58:14 am Thanks for your replies. The shield is fixed on the passenger side with two pins (don't know about the driver side) and both pins have disappeared. Moreover, an edge of the shield has broken off so that it could only get fixed with one pin. For now I fixed it with a zip tie (great tip to have those in the vehicle!) and that is holding well. I will get such push pins and also check how expensive a new shield would be.
