A Place of Remembrance July 05, 2023, 08:24:35 pm The other day Chris Horst helped us remember the passing of Joan Taylor. Some newer people to this Neighborhood might not know anything about her OR the many other LDOs who contributed so much and who have passed away. I have long thought this Forum needed a permanent section to post information about Members who have passed away. In my opinion, we have pinned sections for far less worthy topics than a Remembrance Corner. If the Moderators decide that this suggestion had merit, then I’d suggest that previous posts about Members passing be moved into this section. Then we’d be able to read the many wonderful tributes made to these Members. Thank you for your consideration of this suggestion. In Memoriam - Ken Fears ❤️Lost a good one last night. Martha and Mr. Marks were Lazy Daze folks who traveled around for pleasure and photography. Martha is also a talented historian and author, think 'Ruby of the Viper'.Martha, her husband and I were good friends and it was they who introduced me to some very fine restaurants in Santa Fe, where they lived.What say you?

She's the former owner of Ed & Margee's Lazy Daze, and as Steve noted, the author of "Rubies of the Viper" and its sequel, "The Viper Amulet"--both very well written and well-researched historical novels set in early first century Rome.Martha is also a skillful nature photographer whose images have appeared in National Geographic publications, Birder's World, and the Encyclopedia Britannica Online. 2 Likes As an Amazon Associate Lazy Daze Owners' Group earns from qualifying purchases.

They were a delightful couple and loved their LD who Martha named BlueCon. The last time that I heard from Martha, they were doing well. 1 Likes

Re: A Place of Remembrance Reply #7 – July 07, 2023, 01:11:38 pm One more for the road!Back in the day, '05, '06, '07, ect. there was one exemplary Wagon Mistress/Ramrod, an organizer extraordinaire, Mariel Gertz, who single handedly arranged for the Lazy Daze folk to have exclusive use of rows 3 and 4, just inside the gate of the South Parking Lot at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. I wonder if that fine gal still lives in Bend, Oregon? 2 Likes

They show compassion, are knowledgeable and always stress fun. They do not forget the good ones who made and maintained the greatness of this Group. I am sure many of you will be part of these memories in the future. Let’s just hope it is far into the future!! We are still looking for a LD for just us to enjoy the outdoors. I know when I see it bells will ring and our LD life will begin. In the mean time patience is my strategy. Ron S 2 Likes

We were in Albuquerque for a week and Martha posted here about wanting to see an LD (MB in particular) in person in the hopes of convincing Bernie that this whole LD thing was a very good idea. We responded, as they lived in Santa Fe. They came and toured "Wild Thing" inside and out and we visited a a while, answering whatever questions we could.We were guests in their home in Santa Fe and met up at a restaurant or two over several trips and generally kept in touch for a number of years. We lost touch when Martha signed off as they had sold their LD (to Ed & Margee) and were focusing on their various arts careers (Martha writing and nature photography and Bernie painting...really really good painting).Over our dozen or so years of rambling about in "Wild Thing" we met up with several folks, including Ken Fears who was at a neighboring campground in Albuquerque once. It was always very nice to meet folks who shared a common interest, even as we all came from different places and ideas.We still miss our "Wild Thing" and our travels...they were great days and we were incredibly lucky that our worst RV disaster of any type, big or small, was the Flying Poop Incident in VT in our very early adventures. We always went through and visited Albuquerque usually in late October-early November or April-May. It was always pretty cool (sometimes really cold) and windy. TinaP

OR, CO, NM, etc. A true gentleman, extremely knowledgable and willing to share. He and Dorothy had a special bond as they were both polio survivors.
