Upholstered wall in dinette (2008 MB)
Hi everyone, this is my first post here, after my husband and I became owners of a 2008 Mid Bath about two months ago. We're loving it so far!

We are making some improvements, and yesterday started painting the walls white. We removed the dinette table and pulled off the rectangular upholstered wall, to be able to paint in all the nooks and crannies.

Question for those wiser and more experienced than I: can we leave this upholstered piece off permanently? My preference is to just put back the dinette table directly onto the wall, but am hesitant. I know the mothership has a reason for everything...

If the recommendation is to put back the upholstered piece, any tips and tricks for doing so? In case it matters, we are making slip covers for the cushions, so would want to reupholster this wall piece with the same fabric (planning on Chrome Bull Denim from Big Duck Canvas).

My husband and I have been out there every weekend since we bought our LD, making improvements, and all the posts/knowledge in this forum has made us much more productive and confident. Thank you all!

Welcome to the LDO Forum and secondly congratulations on your LD. While I can’t answer your question about the upholstery I would sure enjoy looking at any pictures of your project. There’s several owners on the Forum in the middle of some projects sharing their upgrades and changes with us.

Owners often call the Factory and ask for Vince when looking for advice about changes. He’s always been extremely helpful when I’ve called.

Best  of luck on your projects.

Thanks Ed and Margee! I'll give Vince a call and see what he says.

I will need to consolidate the photos from our cell phones and digital cameras, but yes, I would love to share some before & afters. We aren't doing anything too major, but so far have ripped up the carpet in anticipation of installing peel + stick vinyl flooring, once the painting is over. You had posted some photos of your de-carpeting project that were very helpful to us! So thank you. : )

I, too, painted the walls of my 2003 MB, and after painting the dinette wall with the upholstered panel removed decided to just leave it off. The table attaches just fine to the wall itself.

I imagine two advantages of the panel is reduced sounds from outside both while driving and being parked, and a padded backrest if you enjoy sitting against the wall with your legs outstretched on the dinette seat. I never use it that way so don't miss it!

Best wishes!

Thank you, Fern! Good to know it's not absolutely necessary.

"Question for those wiser and more experienced than I: can we leave this upholstered piece off permanently?"

Do you mean carpeted wall?  My previous 2003 Twin-King had the back wall by the dinette table carpeted.  The newer 2017 did not come with the carpet on the wall.  However, I did pay extra as an option to have the wall carpeted.  I liked the appearance and when I place things on the floor by the wall, I don't have to worry about the item scuffing up the wall.

Hi Monica! Our Mid Bath has a funny upholstered rectangle that goes across the wall in the dinette area, so no, not referring to carpet in this instance. Though we do have some carpet on the wall in the back room between our two couches.

Cheers!
