What do you all have for a vacuum?
We are at Lone Rock on Lake Powell and the wind has dusted our LD badly.
What's a good, small vacuum cleaner that does upholstery well also?

Thanks

I have this for the LD:

18V ONE+™ HAND VACUUM | RYOBI Tools

A hand vac is not as efficient as a "stick" or upright vacuum for floors, but the Ryobi does a good job of sucking up dirt, dog hair, and whatever else gets tracked in or dropped on any surface. The vac is easy to empty and clean, holds a charge well, and re-charges pretty quickly. The 18V "OnePlus" is a good deal because the one lithium battery (batteries, if one wants an extra) powers a very broad assortment of Ryobi tools.

Neither the vac nor the battery (sold separately) is inexpensive, but shopping around might bring up a few deals; Home Depot sometimes has the vac and the battery in one pack.

A downside is that the vac doesn't come with any accessories, e.g., a crevice tool. It does come with a little "brush" that is virtually useless, though!  ;)

I use the same since I carry several of their One+ tools, plus a charger.
It's a good size dust buster but it isn't great on the couches.

We carried a small, 120-VAC First Devil for years but were never impressed with its performance .
When we are on the road, we will used one of the big vacuums at a truck stop or car wash, one with a 25' hose.
A dollar or two does the job.

The One+ tools are not the highest grade but they seem to last and only having one type of rechargeable battery to deal with is a huge benefit.
My favorite tools are the 1/4" impact driver and leaf blower, with both getting nearly daily use.
The 1/4" impact driver is used with screwdriver bits or 1/4" and 3/8" sockets, it's a versatile tool. I use it like a small air impact wrench, saving dragging out the air hose and running the compressor, just for a quick project.
When off-roading, the 1/2" Impact driver gets carried in the Jeep and is useful when things break or go flat.
I appreciated having it last summer when out LD's inner rear tire blew out, it made removing and tightening the lug nuts almost a tolerable roadside project.

I use a small shop vac that lives under the dinette seat. It sucks. And will remove the sand/dust you get at Lone Rock.

We bought this Shark Rocket TruePet vacuum for the house and motorhome. It has proven to be a stellar performer. It breaks down into pieces that fit inside motorhome-sized interior storage. It is a corded, 120V vacuum.

I did install an interVac central vacuum in our mid-bath, but for all the work it turns out the Shark is a better vacuum.

Actually for cleaning the step inside the doors I’ve started using a blower attachment on my air pump.  This also works on other tight places.  For the rest I use a broom and dust pan.

Langton

I also had the Shop Vac and carried it around for the better part of two years. My problem was that it was too bulky to easily store and I found that it did not get used because of that. Since then I have retired it and have gone to the one linked below:

The new vacuum Lazy Bones has will get used and works nicely. I found a good home for the vacuum in one of the back wardrobes. It stands up at the back and I use hooks and small bungee cord to secure it in place. I also use my Black n Decker hand heald vacuum to get in to tight spaces and edges when needed. 😊

When we bought an Oreck XL,  one of these was thrown into the package:
Oreck compact canister

It lives in the hatch behind the passenger seat while I use the old broom and dustpan combination.  It helped to have all lino flooring installed in the build-out.  ;)

Like others here, I have a number of Ryobi One+ power tools, as they are affordable and generally do a good job. (The exception is their oscillating tool, which seemed underpowered. I ended up buying a Fein MultiMaster, even though I have to fire up a hefty inverter when I want to use it.) So it was natural to buy the Ryobi hand vacuum. I owned it for a few years, but found that it was really only useful as a fancy crevice tool. Trying to vacuum a large area such as a floor or (especially) a rug meant a lot of crawling on hands and knees while sweeping a two-inch-wide nozzle back and forth.

I ended up giving it away and buying a small Shop-Vac. At first I tried the 1-gallon model that Langton mentioned, but found it disappointingly weak. Then I bought the 2.5-gallon version, and that was much better--much more powerful.

But what really made the setup a pleasure to use was the 10-foot soft and flexible hose I bought to go with it. The cheaply made 4-foot hose that comes with the Shop-Vac is stiff, and all too often it pulls the vac over onto its side when you're trying to use it. The long and supple Ridgid hose eliminates that problem. I recommend it for anyone who owns a small Shop-Vac.

I hasten to add that these small Shop-Vacs are not for everyone. They use 120 VAC, so you'll need to be plugged in, running your generator, or have a robust inverter. They are nowhere near as compact or easy to store as a hand vac such as the Ryobi. And if you do a lot of floor cleaning, you'll probably want an upright or "stick vac," preferably with a revolving beater brush. But for my needs, the 2.5-gallon Shop-Vac has proven to be a good all-around performer.

I like the long hose - although I think it costs more than the shop vac I bought 10 years ago.
Got ours out yesterday to suck up dust. Pulled it over twice with the short cord.
There is just enough room under the forward dinette bench on an MB to fit it in with two cases of wine, soft drinks, and a cat heater.

This one is recommended by Consumer Reports and I've been contemplating getting one. Does anyone already have this particular vac, and if so, how does it work?

I went from a cheapo Eureka upright [fancy hand vac with a handle] to a Hoover Linx pet vac. This thing is amazing! Great suction/good brushes, and it recharges quickly..easy to empty, extra foam filters to switch out while one is washed. Fits in a corner in my IB, next to the tv tray..light weight, excellent consumer reviews.

I had one of those Eureka EasyClean vacs for a few years, back when I was a newly-fledged full-timer. It's a clever design: very compact, but has a rotating beater brush and--unusual for a small vac--a (short) hose and crevice tool. The hose, tool and cord store on the vac itself, so there are no loose parts. As I said, a smart, thoughtful design.

I liked it a lot at first, but after a couple of years, the belt that drove the brush started to slip and then broke. I replaced it, but the same thing happened again. If it weren't for that flaw, the little Eureka would be a great choice. (It does require 120 VAC, but it seems as if any vac with decent power needs that.)
