Water Line Routing 1992 MB
Hi,

My trusty LD has developed a water leak.  I had winterized it but......  put water in tank on Saturday and got things going, then left pump on overnight without thinking and carpet is wet from roughly bathroom to dinette.  I pulled the drawers out of the wardrobe and see water dripping from the water heater connection.  It also looks damp around the pump.

Where does the line route through from the pump to the hot water heater?

I did a partial drop of the gas tank a few weeks ago, not more than a few inches.  Did I damage the line doing that?

It doesn't look broken on either end.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,
Jerry

Jerry, what model do you have?  Each will be different.

In my '08 MB, the water routing goes from the tank to the pump, then to a junction near the pump with one branch up to the kitchen sink, one through the  wall to the bathroom sink, and one through the wall behind the toilet, up to the toilet, and behind the shower then up to the shower faucet.  It then goes under the floor to under the wardrobe, to the heater.  From the heater it returns by similar routing to the shower, the kitchen sink and the bathroom sink.

I can access the lines behind the toilet by removing the angled trim piece there, held in place by a few screws.  The part behind and below the shower can be accessed near the faucet via the panel on the wall and, on mine with just one couch, by the lower access panel on the wall.  There, I can see the lines crossing under the floor.  The other ends can be seen by pulling the drawers in the wardrobe, and can be worked on by removing the forward platform on the passenger side couch (10 or 12 screws).  That will be helpful if you have a MB.  It might give you a few clues if you have another model.

Are the water heater and pump on the same side of the rig? If not, the line is run under the floor, but NOT under the rig. the gas tank should have no bearing on this issue. Is your plumbing PEX or polybutylene (gray)? If the latter, check for cracked flare nuts at the fittings - a common issue. If this is the case, replace them with brass flare nuts.

Thank you for the reply, the water tank and pump are on opposite sides.  The lines are gray.  It was dripping at the connection from the plastic to the copper at the water tank.  I have not checked the connections at the pump yet.

If you unscrew the gray plastic nut at the water tank, you will likely see it is cracked. Replace it with a brass nut. You will have to cut and re-flare the tubing after sliding on the new nut. If the tubing would be too short then, you will have to cut back and add a short piece of copper tubing, a flare barrel connector, and a couple more brass flare nuts.

The should also be an access panel at the front of the left couch storage compartment, if you have that storage compartment .  This will give Access tithe left side of the shower pan and floor PEX tunnels.

I have an older MB but given how little they changed over the years, I'm assuming it will be similar.  Thanks for this description.  It is very helpful. I'll pull the access panels and give all of these fittings a good look.

Jerry, you said the water tank and the pump are on opposite sides.  Not on my MB.  My pump is right next to my water tank.  The water heater is on the opposite side.  Perhaps that was what you meant?

Sorry, yes that is correct.  The pump and tank are next to each other under the kitchen cabinetry, the water heater is on the opposite side under the wardrobe.

I think I found the culprit.  Mine had a swamp cooler that I replaced with a fantastic fan a few years ago.  It looks like the water line runs from a branch off the water heater line near the furnace to a shut off.  I opened up the inspection areas you all mentioned and turned the water pump back on.  I could hear hissing and the heater hose was wet.  There must be a leak in the coupling to that shut off valve which has been closed since I did the swap.  I think I can cap the line near the water heater working through the removed drawer spaces.  I don't see water anywhere else.
