Seen one of these on the road January 30, 2018, 06:41:24 pm On the way to the doggy park this morning I happened to see a Nissan NV2500 Cargo Van. What got my attention were the hinges on the back doors. They looked like something meant for a bank vault!Wonder if Nissan will ever have a cut-away chassis, hopefully on the 3500 model?? Just thinken!Nissan Commercial Vehicles 2018 NV2500 & NV3500 Work Vans 1 Likes

Re: Seen one of these on the road Reply #3 – January 31, 2018, 09:27:20 pm There is something to be said about “beefy”. Discussions in the past on LDO have mentioned the vulnerability of the e350/e450 cab section. Many commercial cargo van owners have resorted to attaching heavy locking mechanisms to the cab doors. They make sense for such applications yet are rather clunky for LD cabs. There are, however, some well designed aftermarket cab door locking mechanisms that, if painted to match the cab paint, would have a better appeal and reduce the known vulnerabilities of the front cab section.https://youtu.be/sSmFcUj81Y0https://youtu.be/YGXotun5EaEInteresting devices all in all and while the coach section has different vulnerabilities at least these may add some “beefy” security to the cab.Kent

I suspect that everyone has mis-interpreted my original post."Wonder if Nissan will ever have a cut-away chassis, hopefully on the 3500 model??"What I was suggesting was: Do you think Lazy Daze would consider replacing the Ford E-450 with something on the order of the Nissan 3500? Does this vehicle look like something feasible for that purpose?
Re: Seen one of these on the road Reply #5 – January 31, 2018, 10:27:58 pm Steve,My comments on your post were simply in response to the large hinges on the rear of the Nissan Cargo Van. The Ford Transit has rather “beefy” hinges as well. Perhaps due in part to the rather large rear doors. Break-ins appear to occur at the locking mechanism. Cutaway Vans seem to be a speciality modification. If Nissan did in fact create such a chassis, I would wonder if it would then be capable of serving as a Class C RV of a smaller dimension than what we have come to know in this RV classification. If not, then perhaps the Nissan is better suited for a Class B. This begs the question. Are there currently any Class B’s produced on the Nissan 2500 or 3500 chassis? Kent

I was thinking more along the lines of a primary vehicle, not something you would tow! I was kidding. But if it worked anything like my 2004 Titan, it should do well. With the V-8 & 9,400 towing capacity, it couldn't tow the LD, quite ! Sorry, but I missed the line about the 3500 cutaway and maybe started the misthreading.

Does this vehicle look like something feasible for that purpose? While the Nissan NV3500 has plenty of power, it's 9900-lb GVW is too small to use as E450 replacement, even if the chassis was delivered as a cutaway . I did see several Class B versions of the Nissan van at the Pomona RV Show, in October. The front end has the long, Titan pickup hood, which reduces interior room, compared to an equal length E450 or Sprinter.A similar RV could be built on an American 3/4 ton pickupLarry 1 Likes
