Swing And A Miss
Yesterday afternoon a car left and slightly ahead of me lost a shinny hubcap. Too bad, right?

Worse! It came rolling in my direction at about 60 mph. All I could do was go steady onward and hope for a miss. As it passed my view it looked like it would miss me altogether. That would have been nice...but it didn’t. It wacked the rearward side with a loud “wack” and with such force that I felt it’s impact.

I quickly checked my TPMS. Nothing appeared to indicate any tire damage. I pulled off at the next off ramp and pulled into a Shell station and checked everywhere on the coach.

To my amazement, there was no damage. No marks on the body. No missing paint, no tire damage, no fiberglass body panel damage... nothing.

The only thing I did see were two very faint parallel scratches on the bottom of the gas tank. A forensic specialist may have even missed it.

Call it “Lucky Stars” or “Guardian Angel” I am so happy that it was a Hit And Almost A Miss. I’ll check again and look for any unnoticed damage, but so far so good.

One good thing that may have come of this is the fact that it did hit me and not go flying into someone else’s vehicle. At least I don’t think it did as I didn’t hear any screeching brakes behind me.

A real "oh $HIT moment".

On the way to Colorado this summer, while a truck was passing me, its rear right outside tire blew.  When it was right next to the LD's driver's window.  In an incredibly noisy event; I saw the tread strip off the tire.  I saw the tread fly out from the side of the tractor trailer's trailer just as it passed me.   I saw the treat take flight as high as my eyebrow, passing in front of me,  then fall and slide to the shoulder of the road.  Yes I was standing on the wider of the two peddles in front of me.  Yes I did get as far to the left as I could.  Yes, there was a real pucker moment, and I am not talking about getting ready to whistle.
I pulled over to the shoulder and somehow I managed to get around the tire tread.  There was no damage on the right side of my RV and no truck tire hanging from the LD or the Forester I was towing.  After checking everything over I turned on the water pump and used the restroom then drove to the next rest area to take a better look at both sides of the RV.   (while pulled over I did not walk out onto the interstate to see the left side.)

Yikes, John!  :o Thankfully no one was hurt and no major damage was done!

I guess it's all part of the adventure and you can laugh about it now, eh?
