Baffled about 4-pin connector August 03, 2018, 09:40:35 am I am wit's end here. Our 11-year-old Stay N Play died. The new one requires different wiring. I had run separate wiring for the old unit, but it made sense to use the LD installed 4-pin to power the new unit. I was getting erratic readings using a VOM on the connector terminals, so with great effort, I removed the connector and took readings from the bare wires. [Note found the sealed connector filled with, I guess, dielectric grease and dirt between the terminals. Thinking there was some conduction between the pins]From the bare wires, I get 12volts only on the running lights. I get 6v from each side of the brake light, 6v from one turn signal and 1v from the other turn signal. It was fine the last time I used four years ago for lights on another toad.I have not been able to trace the cable all the to the engine compartment, so I could test from there. Anyone know where it is?How would you troubleshoot this? Buy a new LD?
Re: Baffled about 4-pin connector Reply #1 – August 03, 2018, 11:06:16 am "Our 11-year-old Stay N Play died."That's scary! When I had the Stay N Play installed on my '02 Honda Civic thirteen years ago (and my '08 CRV again in '10) the power was sourced from a wire loom mid-ships of the Lazy Daze. Perhaps you may find yours there also.
Re: Baffled about 4-pin connector Reply #2 – August 03, 2018, 12:18:34 pm Steve, I know where the wire terminates in the back. Seeking where it connects in the engine compartment.PS Nothing scary about it. Just a vac leak that could not be repaired. Pump ran all the time.
Re: Baffled about 4-pin connector Reply #3 – August 03, 2018, 12:31:02 pm Is there a ground on that connector? First place I look for unusual voltage readings.
Re: Baffled about 4-pin connector Reply #4 – August 03, 2018, 02:54:25 pm The Factory wiring can accessed under the driver’s door plastic step. It pops off, held by clips.Larry 1 Likes
Re: Baffled about 4-pin connector Reply #5 – August 03, 2018, 08:04:39 pm Don, if I understood your post, you had low voltage on three of four leads. The fourth is the ground connection. While you might have corrosion on all 3, if you are using the 4 pole socket for ground for your meter, my bet would be a bad ground. I had my ground connection go bad. I addressed it by drilling through the bumper, tapping the hole, and putting in a stainless screw and nut, and a wire to make a secondary ground. Presto - good function on all leads.Next thing to consider is that the 27' wire leads to the 4 pin connector are rather small, so some voltage drop is to be expected, but not that much. I think you are on the right track by checking every wire junction for looseness and/or corrosion.Ken F in WY
Re: Baffled about 4-pin connector Reply #6 – August 04, 2018, 07:33:34 am Don, if I understood your post, you had low voltage on three of four leads. The fourth is the ground connection. I have a normal reading of 12v for the running lights - brown and white, the ground wire. That would seem to indicate the ground is OK.I will explore removing the door kick panel to see what I can see there. Low expectation that I will ever get the panel back in place.

I've removed the rocker trim before to run some wires and it was not a problem to get it off or back on again. I assumed it would be a problem like the panel below the steering wheel had been.Jim

Re: Baffled about 4-pin connector Reply #9 – August 04, 2018, 01:29:43 pm Don-Up to a month ago, I could have referred you to a set of diagrams on the Ford Body Builder Layout Book Web pages. Unhappily, Ford took the pages for pre-2014 chassis off their site. So, I must go by memory. On your 2007 MB, there should be three connectors under the coach. They are inside the driver-side frame rail, about four feet from the rear of the coach, between the grey water tank and the gas tank- a lousy place for access. One of the connectors power the coach rear lights. The other two power the trailer circuits. One of these contains four wires: parking lamps, left turn/stop, right turn/stop and ground. This connector should be the last stop for the signals before they reach the trailer connector, assuming no one has modified the wiring. Each of the signals appears in the front of the coach in one form or another. Your chassis manual will divulge the fuses and their fuse box locations.None of this is really helpful, unless you like crawling around under your coach with a voltmeter.I am willing to help you by phone. Send me a private message if you are interested in that.Mark H
