Come on down to the land of the drive thru daiquiri stands with lawyer's billboards lining our highways and cluttering up our airwaves if you want high insurance rates.

What did I win?

The daiquiris are not bad. If they only sold ammo at the drive up window it would make it one stop shopping.

Ken,

For what it's worth, our cars are insured through AIS. They recommended Mercury for our automobile insurance. Mercury has treated us well.

When we purchased our 2015 RB we called AIS and they lead us to National Interstate for the LD. The details of the RV coverage are in the rig but suffice it to say that we have Full Recover Value for the cost of the New LD. After five years the coverage changes similarly as other carriers but for more details I'd have to pull out the contract. The cost averages out to be $78.00 per month.

They provide Coach-Net as the road side assistance package. While I've never had a need for any of Nat Interstate or Coach-Net, I feel pretty comfortable with my LD coverage.

Checking Nat. Interstates web site recently they appear to be a devoted provider of RV insurance. National Interstate Insurance - RV This is a link to their site for additional information.

Good luck with your decision.

We have Foremost for the LD and Farmers for the fleet of miscellaneous cars we have not yet found the energy to downsize. No claim history so far.

Thanks, Ed. The reason I asked is that our current company (Farmer's) keeps jacking up the prices every year even though no claims. Granted, we do live in a wildland fire area but even so . . .

I received a quote today from USAA and it was nearly half the price of Farmer's for a comparable policy. I found that hard to believe so I checked out USAA on Consumer Reports online, thinking they must not be very good for that price.  Turns out USAA is the second highest rated company for homeowners insurance!    I then talked to my step-son who is insured with them and he said nothing but good things as well.  So with your additional good comments, guess where I'm headed?  :)

My apologies for the side-track;  we now return you to your regular programming . . . ;D

One final side-track as I wanted to give an update of my experiences so far with USAA (for Homeowner's insurance, not RV or auto).

Starting tomorrow, we will be insured with USAA for Homeowners and Earthquake.  USAA quoted ~$800 less than my current Farmer's policy for comparable coverage.  In addition, their customer service has been excellent to date.  I elected to receive documents electronically so it really sped up the process, plus I was able to pay the premium using my USAA credit card with 1.5% cash back, giving even more savings!

Next, I will be getting a quote for their auto insurance to see how they compare with AAA.

A very satisfied customer so far!

An older thread but thought I would pass this article from Clearsurance along. Doesn't necessarily rank RV insurance but covers automobile, home and renter's. Just click on the buttons to the left for the ranking of the type of insurance you are interested in.  Glad to see my new homeowner's policy company (USAA) is highly ranked!

I recently dumped Farmers and switched to Safeco. I saved about 50% with identical coverages. They insure motorhomes directly too.

Currently paying State Farm $624.26 per year for a 2016 MB.   I do have have all my insurance through them.   They let me pay with a 2% back bank card so deduct that.   I love that 2% part.     Frank

We’ve had our 2006 TK through AAA since picking it up in March of 2007. It’s always been insured for comprehensive and collision for the full original purchase price — $69,650. No deduction for depreciation or “actual cash value.”  Along with $500/$1mil liability, I paid $520 this year. Nice to know that if someone clobbers it or it burns to the ground we’ll have a tidy sum towards replacement. Touch wood against either as both coach and chassis are in excellent shape for the second decade. — Jon

You can't compare what anyone else pays to what your needs are unless they are in your exact market, with the exact same coverage limits, the exact same vehicle, other policies, and credit rating as you.  Insurance is completely local market-driven and managed by each state's insurance regulatory board.  Not all companies write in all states/counties, either, nor do all states mandate the same coverage limits.

Best to contact an independent agent who specializes in RVs to get a meaningful set of quotes to compare.  Ron Jarvie at Overland RV Insurance Quote - Motorhome, Travel Trailer & Fifth Wheel and the folks at Miller RV Insurance are two who immediately come to mind that we have used (we had Miller as our agent for our Foretravel and have Ron for our LTV, both policies through Progressive).

Bingo. Rates and coverage vary by locale, even another zip code across the street from you.

That said, we were able to obtain coverage at significant savings through Costco with Ameriprise. That may not be available where you live. I am guessing the rates were lower because they screen applicants. I did a 20-minute phone interview with them. Big contrast with most insurer's who ask for your VIN and not much else.
