Overloaded October 20, 2024, 05:45:49 pm Not a motorhome but a good reminder to pay attention to weight specs, and to verify actual weights of our LD’s at a scale (ideally one that can weigh each corner). https://www.rvtravel.com/broken-frame-lesson-stuff-dont-salesperson-1087b/
Re: Overloaded Reply #1 – October 21, 2024, 04:09:47 pm How many times have I heard, “The man said it would be OK”?The majority of auto salespeople have only one goal in life: to sell as many cars or trucks as possible, they do not care about how appropriate a vehicle is for a buyer’s actual needs. The bottom line is to do your homework before buying.Larry

Be careful on downgrades, it would be easy to have the brakes fade if not using the gears to keep the speed down.Larry 1 Likes
Re: Overloaded Reply #5 – October 28, 2024, 07:10:27 pm I have to emphasize that Larry is serious. The two times I measured my '99 E350 I was about 25 pounds over the 11,500# limit. I travel with less than full water tank now, about 35 gallons of water (instead of 54), and removed some 'lead acid' weight recently. I also lightened some storage spaces. Unfortunately those weights didn't include me, but I lost some pounds too. I do have the same tires as the 14,050 26.5 and 27' rigs. I have smoked the brakes coming down from Big Bear, the weather was hot! (No vac assist, those squirrels!). Pulled over to let them cool off. RonB 2 Likes
Re: Overloaded Reply #6 – November 03, 2024, 09:34:00 am I would never, never, never, take the word of a salesperson for much of anything, particularly something so important. Before we bought our 2004 Lazy Daze way back when, we were shopping for Class C's. Came across one that had a "garage" in the back where you could load an ATV into it. Looking at the CCC, I saw that it was something like 600 lb. Made the comment to my husband that once someone loaded an ATV into the garage, that would take up the majority of the CCC, if not all of it. The salesperson overheard me and tried to convince me that the weight of the ATV would come out of the towing capacity, not the CCC...she said the factory representative had told her that. I knew she was wrong and tried to convince her that the weight of anything loaded into the back would be subtracted from the CCC, but she was having none of it. I often wondered if some unsuspecting person bought that RV and ended up vastly overloading it. 4 Likes
