Follow-ups Spare water pump (split from Re: Amazon Shipping) Amazon Shipping April 21, 2017, 06:19:16 am Point of curiosity...Has Amazon gone into it's own shipping business??I ordered a couple of items for my Lazy Daze and when it had been shipped I got a tracking number that was prefaced with: Carrier: AMZL US, Tracking #: XXXXXXXThe tracking info also indicated that the package would arrive by "8PM". Normally I have come to expect that the carrier would be UPS when that was the case. I pasted the tracking # into USPS, UPS and FedEx with negative results. When the delivery occurred at 7:40pm it was by a driver in an unmarked white van and not wearing any sort of uniform. What's going on here?

Re: Amazon Shipping Reply #3 – April 21, 2017, 10:59:06 am Hey folks, thanks for the links... however they didn't work for me. But I Googled them and got the scoop.I thought something was going on with Amazon when they split two different orders and combined them into one that I had paid "2 Day Shipping" for. And I also thought it odd that the 'final' destination was San Francisco. I live at least 40 miles from that fair city. What happens next, will they buy WalMart too?
Re: Amazon Shipping Reply #4 – April 21, 2017, 11:38:14 am A few days ago, after reading the thread on LD water pumps, I placed my order for a stand by pump through Amazon."Delivery by 8pm" the delivery notice said. The day of the delivery a young lady driving a sedan walked up carrying an Amazon box. It was four hours early. That's ok by me. They've done this on Sunday afternoons as well. Again, OK by me.Free shipping with Prime, a tip to LDO and I'm ready for my next order. Time for a set of back up dump valves for our RB. Now to find the model number. It's all good.Kent
Re: Amazon Shipping Reply #5 – April 21, 2017, 11:49:58 am You are all lucky you got Amazon shipping.I ordered an oak paper towel rack to put under the cabinet and over the sink (through Amazon). Cyndy loved it's looks and I winced at the price. The only shipping offered was USPS. I ordered on March 15 with an expected arrival March 27.It is in transit, but hasn't arrived yet (April 21). I could have cut down the tree, milled the wood, and made the silly thing by now! 1 Likes

Many of the items currently shipped through Amazon are delivered to us via USPS at our PO Box in town unless the shipper ships UPS or FedEx Ground, usually larger and heavier items. A bit inconvenient since the PO is 17 miles away but at least it's secure. Maybe someday they'll deliver up here by drone but I ain't holding my breath!

Re: Amazon Shipping Reply #8 – April 22, 2017, 02:32:44 am I saw something a while ago where Amazon was hiring drivers. Minimum wage, driver supplied the car. Sort of like pizza delivery or uber cars. The first time I used Amazon lockers the delivery was not great, 1 item got lost forever and when I called a week after it was to be delivered they just sent out a new one, the other items were delivered over a few days.Things seem to be better now, I don't use the Amazon lockers (too hot in Phoenix for outside dark metal lockers even in the winter). Often the items is sent by amazon tracking numbers. Note, since we have warehouses here in phoenix often it just goes from the warehouse to the final destination, but some seem to have middle stops. Tracking information is not quite as good but adequate (shows when left, when will arrive, when delivered).

Re: Amazon Shipping Reply #11 – April 22, 2017, 02:49:13 pm In answering Gregs request for input, I also neglected to to see the "Thread Heading" and simply responded to a request for details. That being said back to the topic at hand. It was mentioned that Amazon is using independent drivers to make deliveries. I mentioned earlier that a young lady delivered an Amazon package to me in an unmarked car and "out of uniform".This sort of thing can be a tad worry some in that we know a UPS or FED EX truck and driver when we see them. Is it hard to imagine that the "bad guys" may soon catch wind of these unmarked Amazon delivery drivers and decide to take advantage of the situation? It certainly wouldn't take much to cause some serious trouble. Or am I being overly cautious? Kent 2 Likes
Re: Amazon Shipping Reply #12 – April 22, 2017, 05:43:15 pm We've had issues in our gated RV resort with sketchy looking On-Track delivery drivers speeding around the park in junky unmarked vehicles, no uniforms, with loud radios. The UPS and FedEx drivers are always professional, the On-Track guys much less so despite complaints. You're not being overly cautious at all. fu2015TK 1 Likes
Re: Amazon Shipping Reply #13 – April 25, 2017, 01:17:20 pm Speaking of OnTrac shipping, here's another negative experience. My DW recently ordered an inflatable kayak from e-bay which shipped via OnTrac. Well, it was delivered yesterday and imagine our surprise when we decided to go for a walk and discovered a large box at the top of our driveway (approx, 100 ft. from the house)! Didn't bother to drive down to deliver it; didn't bother to at least walk down and let us know it was there (we were home all day). What if we were out of town, or if the weather was inclement? Definitely not a fan of OnTrac!
