MLFlyer asked about a 2003 MB vs 2003 30' for about the same price.
Newbie - to LD Class C and this forum - have been RVing with a Chevy dully/33 foot 5er since 1997 - looking to downsize - as we only travel about four/five months a year these days - round trip Arizona coastal CA, OR, WA from May to Oct - am surprised at the mileage vs price - understand that LD is in a class by itself so please excuse the sticker shock - - - lack of bedroom makes and price makes this a hard decision - - - see that PPL has a 2003 LD 30 footer for about same price - - - any additional pictures and comments would be appreciated
I started this new topic for MLFLyer.  Hopefully they will understand that I was not trying to be rude in the other (for sale) post.    I will post my comments below and perhaps they can get an answer that suits them.

Given that you're moving from a larger unit either unit may fit your needs.  There are advantages and disadvantages with each.   You may want to take a look at the floor plans on LD website, Lazy Daze - Floor Plans.  Note when I talk about below about livable space - I am just comparing one LD style to another.  I am not comparing a 5er to a class C.

The 30' Lazy daze come with a bedroom in back.  They have either a queen or a pair of twin bed(s).  They have a lot of storage and are very comfortable and a very open living space.  The down side is the CCC is somewhat limited on the longest LD.  You are veteran campers so I can not say if this CCC is an issue for you.

There are two very different  mid length Lazy Daze RVs (they were 26.5 and after 2008 are 27 due to the longer Ford chassis)  the mid bath (MB) and the rear bath (RB).  This mid length RV allows a nice compromise between CCC and livable space. The rear bath is more open and has a bath changing room in the rear.  It is the less common of the two but for just two people could be more comfortable on long trips.  The owners love them.  I (a Mid Bath owner) was very close to looking for one.   There has been a lot of discussion about the advantages of each, I will allow the RB owners speak up about the other bennies.

The Mid Bath mention can be configured so the back is a bedroom with either wall to wall king size bed or two twins.  When  not in use as a bed room it makes a nice lounge with two couches and a 180 degree panorama of very nice windows.  Another advantage is the two living areas so one person can sleep while the other is in the other (galley) area.  The down side is the rooms are much smaller and there is a less open feel.

There was one other 26.5' length that had a queen size bed in back.  The factory (aka the mother ship) stopped making those some years ago because they did not sell that well.  The kitchen is small but they do have a following.

In the LD line the king of the CCC is the 24 (before 2008 23.5) short RV.  You did not ask about those so I will not talk about them unless you ask.

Again I hope you did not find my other post demeaning or mean spirited.  That was not my intent.  If you - or for that mater any of the others here - took offense please accept my apology.

John,
First - many thanks for moving my post to a more appropriate spot - Second - nothing to take offense about when someone is trying to help - it is appreciated - - - we are members of several forums concerned with our second love sailing on Princess cruise ships - which is our greatest tool for reaching our most cherished goal,  i.e., making sure there in absolutely nothing left in our bank account and/or investments for our children to squabble over - we try for at least three cruises a year - point being we are well acquainted with folks being mean spirited and demeaning - just mention something wrong with Princess and these folks will go off on you big time - - -  John you are most certainly not one who fits the category of demeaning or mean spirited. Back to Lazy Daze - wife did not think she could not handle to bed configuration in the 2003 MB model and I had a problem with the high mileage and owner would consider lowering the price point which would have allowed us to make some changes - - -  so we are now looking at a year 2000 - 30 foot LD with island bed in rear - has only 51163 miles - and owner had added about everything one can do to enhance this motor home for quality of life on the road  - - - most likely will miss out on this one as owner will not take a deposit and we will be unable to get to his location until next week - - - was thinking of hiring someone in his area to do an inspection just to prove we are serious - - -  any thought or concerns on the 2000 model year would be appreciated - Ken

The 30' LD may well be much easier to move into for you guys to move into.  Living space while smaller than the 5er is nicely laid out.  The barrel chairs are love by some (me included) and while not so much by others.  By 2003 the V10 is more powerful than when it first came out.  You will have to be careful about weight.  There are several well respected owners of the long LD on the forum.  Hopefully they will speak up.
If you do some research the early V10's had an issue with the spark plugs popping out of the head.  I think this model year is after the problem but you may want to find out when that stopped.  If this RV falls in the range that that happened you will want to ask the owner if he has had the the plugs re-torqued or the fix done.     I don't know of any model related issues.  The general concerns with any LD come into play.  Has the roof been resealed, leaks, generator exercise?   Overall it sounds like a nice RV.
Be careful following my comments.  I have been RVing only 6 years.   Before that it was car camping.  Look for post by Chris Horst.  The subject of the advantages of various rigs has been discussed a bunch. Chris owns a long Lazy Daze, writes well and posts often.  On the subjects of "general maintenance issues" and "what to look for" search post by Larry Wade.  There are other people as well but by putting in a item with the search and their names the other folks will show up in the search too.

Once again thanks for your insight - realized that I was about to ask all the same newbe questions about LD that I did in 1997 when we first started full time RVING - we started out with a 3/4 ton Chevy with a pop-up camper on back and towed a 26 foot Road Ranger travel trailer - then after several years of driving everyone nuts on a full timers forum and asking questions - that had been  answered over and over again -  we ended up with a 33 foot Carriage 5th wheel and a 2001 Chevy 3500  LT - and so here I am again and about to do the same - just found a extremely comprehensive review of LD articles on blogspot.com - so you guys (and gals) are off the hook for the foreseeable future - once again thanks for getting me started down the right path - wife and I definitely see a LD in our future - most likely before our normal departure from AZ in the merry month of May --- Ken
