Specific Towing Equipment
I may be grasping at straws or looking for needles in a haystack but I have a question for those LD Owners who are using 'specific' towing equipment.

That equipment is: Roadmaster Sterling tow bar towing a Honda CRV (perhaps the CRV is not the only toad this would apply to).

My question is about the safety cables... specifically "EZ Hook Safety Cables", also by Roadmaster. And, ta da, the question is: How long are they???

If I get any responses I'd bet that you will say 64". I'm  contemplating using those measuring 55". I would like to find someone who also uses the 55" length.   8)

I use the Sterling tow bar and 64" cables.  I think that 55" cables will not have enough length to handle a hard turn.  If you were able to connect them, you might wind up damaging the tow plate if the cable went to its limit.  I suggest that you take a piece of rope that length to test it before deciding on the shorter cable length.

I've been using the 64" cables for the last 12 years and while they work okay I have to loop them back on themselves at the coach attachment points so that they are somewhat correct as to length.

Since the 55" cables are 9" shorter I have reason to believe that they will not only eliminate the 'loop-back' but also be of the correct length for tight turns. At least that is my hope and the reason I worded the question as I did.

My system is Blue Ox, but I have been happy so far with the included coiled cables. That's an option that avoids length issues.

I own the Sterling tow bar and the unique feature on it is the integral tubes on the underside wherein you run the safety cables, umbilical cord and break-away cable. I doubt if the coiled variety would even pass through due to the way it's made.

Amen! my two cents worth: having had both brands, I vote for Blue Ox's system as much easier to deal with overall. If I still have my Roadmaster Sterling towbar, I'd replace their cables with the coiled Blue Ox ones.

No, they wouldn't fit through the channels in the Sterling towbars. Makes no difference, since they are self-supporting, with no need to thread them through anything. Also, their hefty spring-loaded hooks are far easier to connect and disconnect--and I have to think much stronger--than Roadmaster's tiny balls and goofy zigzag channels.

"... tiny balls and goofy zigzag channels."

Since my only desire is to shorten the length of the cables I see no reason to modify my present system, goofy or not!

Roadmaster says that their 'tiny balls'  ;)  are rated at 8,000lbs and that's good enough for me and my Honda CRV.

Our Sterling towbar (purchased in 2014) came with 68-inch cables. I also purchased a set of 76-inch cables, for when a drop hitch is needed. The part numbers from the towbar owner's manual are 655 and 655-76. I don't have experience with any shorter cables- sorry.
